Come on guys.

Bell on door clanks, come on in
Floyd observes my hairy chin
Sit down chair don't be afraid
Steamed hot towel on my face

I was shaved

Barney ties me to the chair
I can't see, I'm really scared
Floyd breathes hard, I hear a zip
Peepee pressed against my lips

I was shamed

I sense others in the room
Opie, Aunt Bea, I presume
They take turns and cut me up
I died smothered in Andy's butt

I was shamed

Seriously? They're so subversive; they're along the same lines as Shellac and Jesus Lizard: Brutal riffs with tongue-in-cheek, or downright nonsensical, lyrics. Man, do I love Spoke:

I draw the line at "poop as hard as rock" or "peepee pressed against my lips." I much prefer the Melvins take on this approach. And on top of that, they kinda invented it.

Knowing these lyrics are actually really damaging the album in my mind. It's crazy how far they advanced with their next two.

Yeah, the Melvins were definitely originators of the trope. But I love Kurt's take on it. His lyrics melded with the music offer such a fun middle finger to all the heavy bands of white dudes singing about epic sorrow.

BOW TO MASTERS, TRAG

Los ticka toe rest
Might like a sender doe ree
Your make a doll a ray day sender
Bright like a penalty
Exi-tease my ray day member
Half lost a beat away
Purst in like a one way sender
War give a heart like a fay

'Cause I can ford a red-eed
Only street a wide a re-land
Diamond make a mid-evil
Bike a sake a like a re-caste

You sink a my swan
Rolly a get a worst in
Maybe minus way far central
Poor forty duck a pin

Milkmaid dud bean
Master a load a head
Pill pop a dope a well run
General hash pump a gonna led

Yeah, "You sink a my swan" is definitely better than anything in Floyd the Barber. But they are both better than Yellow Ledbetter.

yellow ledbetter conveys an ocean of emotion with nonsensical lyrics on the basis of that performance.

I struggle to connect with a lot of earlier PJ lyrics, because I don't feel like much of a victim anymore in life. A lot (but not all) of the old grunge lyrics -- especially PJ and AIC -- read to me like the musings of privileged white guys. At least Yellow Ledbetter can't claim that intention. PJ lyrics peaked during the Binaural/Riot Act era, when Ed stopped singing about being a celebrity In Hiding, and started making some (often ham-fisted) commentary on the political/social ills going on around him.

Yellow Ledbetter might be the single most overrated Pearl Jam song of all time

I'll take pee pee pressed against my lips over that shit

Can I vote for the Melvins or Shellac songs? Those are better than both.

I would absolutely vote for "Night Goat" by Melvins above any song in this tournament
