Gen X thinks they're so cool, but it turns out that they're actually just as lame as the boomers.

La La Land was a very dull movie.

I think this is a pretty popular movie opinion at this point.B wrote:La La Land was a very dull movie.
The last time I saw the general public sentiment turn against a movie so goddamn quickly was... I dunno... American Beauty maybe

Re: Unpopular Movie Opinions
THEY LOVED IT! And then very suddenly it felt like most people didn't
I'm speaking very generally, of course. It's a similar thing with La La Land. Public sentiment is hard (and honestly kind of pointless) to try and gauge but these days you don't hear many people talk about La La Land other than to say how not-really-that-good it was.

Re: Unpopular Movie Opinions
I didn't care for American Beauty. But I felt that way after watching it the first time on opening night. I'm actually the opposite of what Platy is talking about. I really didn't like it and then it slowly grew on me. Now I think it's a'ight. Not great but solid with some great moments.Rangi Guy wrote:People didn't like American Beauty?theplatypus wrote:I think this is a pretty popular movie opinion at this point.B wrote:La La Land was a very dull movie.

Re: Unpopular Movie Opinions
Yeah, I walk out of the theater rolling my eyes. I didn't think it was pretentious but I did think it was a mess. Why on earth did they turn that movie into a "who-done-it"? So fucking stupid. There was so much else there to mine and explore and I think they took the easy way out.tragabigzanda wrote:Same here, but even more extreme. I was in high school when AB came out; I found it to be pretentious and formulaic. Now I quite like it -- I think the script is a monster, and the performances are all great.durdencommatyler wrote:I didn't care for American Beauty. But as time's gone on, I've calmed down on it a bit and I can appreciate it for what it is. If you like the script you should see if you can still track down the original draft. It was WAY more interesting, I think.

Didn't the same guy make Crash? I think that retroactively hurt American Beauty.

Re: Unpopular Movie Opinions
I am totally apathetic toward La La Land. My wife and I watched half of it one night, and on the second night, she asked if I wanted to watch the rest, I couldn't say "yes," but I wasn't a definite "no." I just didn't give a fuck if I saw the conclusion of the movie or not.theplatypus wrote:I think this is a pretty popular movie opinion at this point.B wrote:La La Land was a very dull movie.

It's one of the four or five worst movies of all time. It made me feel suicidal in the movie theatre.
