It's pretty neat!

downloaded and listening now. 15 minutes in it has used bits of echoes, several species..., atom heart mother, some wall sfx, the droning instumentals from obscured by clouds... more a sound collage than anything. probably won't blow anyone away, but some of you might enjoy hearing familiar tunes in an unfamiliar way.

I can pretty much say show/visual/sound-wise Roger Waters' the Wall was the best I've ever seen.

Roger Waters has opened up about the past, present, and future in a new interview with BBC HARDtalk, which will air tomorrow in the US during BBC World News.

As he draws near the end of his three-year long Wall tour, Waters said his next venture will come in the form of a new record. He explained, “You know I’ve had a few breakthroughs recently which I won’t talk about, but I am going to make another record. I’ve had a very very strong idea, and I shall pursue it, and I will make at least one more record and I am really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into it.” Water’s last proper solo album was 1992′s Amused to Death, though he released the three-act opera Ça Ira in 2005.

But perhaps the most noteworthy part of Waters’ interview stemmed from comments regarding his departure from Pink Floyd in 1985, and the subsequent legal dispute between he and his former bandmates. Specifically, Waters said he was “wrong” in his attempts to stop David Glmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright from continuing on under the Pink Floyd banner.

Waters said:

“I did, I did think that was wrong, and I was wrong!… Of course I was. Who cares? It was a commercial decision and in fact it’s one of the few times that the legal profession has taught me something. Because when I went to these chaps and said ‘listen we’re broke, this isn’t Pink Floyd anymore’, they went ‘what do you mean? That’s irrelevant, it is a label and it has commercial value, you can’t say it’s going to cease to exist, you obviously haven’t looked back to Runnymede, you obviously don’t understand English jurisprudence…It’s not about what you think, it’s about…it’s what it is’….The law is everything what we have, that’s what the Wall is about.”

At the time of his departure, Waters considered Pink Floyd “a spent force,” and was displeased over the continued use of the band’s name. He filed several injunctions against Gilmour and Mason to no avail, even threatening to sue concert promoters who advertised the band as Pink Floyd. Ultimately, he and Gilmour settled, with Waters agreeing to relinquish the name Pink Floyd in exchange for trademark over The Wall and his famed inflatable pig.

he's been talking about a new record since the mid-90s (he even has bandied about a title, "Heartland") so i'll believe it when i see it. but if there was ever any proof that roger waters has softened considerably in his old age, it's the admission that it was a mistake to sue gilmour & co. it's a shame that since then gilmour seems to have taken up roger's old mantle of band curmudgeon.

He sounded horrible on that duet with Eddie Vedder a while back. Are any of these guys solo albums worth it? I love Pink Floyd but never got into any of their side projects (same thing with PJ, actually).

Amused to Death is wonderful..and there is a Rick Wright album...dont remember the name..with Sinead O Connor that´s very very good.

I have the feeling Roger thinks that about the lawsuit because he finally has success as a solo artist, even if he is basically playing PF albums.

Amused to Death is wonderful.

It takes a little patience before it really starts to crack, but AtD is one of my favorite records to come out of anything Floyd, bar none. I saw him on the In the Flesh tour, and the Amused tracks were clear highlights even surrounded by Floyd hits.

yes, it's hard not to. especially the part about patience. i first listened to 'amused to death' when i was 16 or so and immersing myself in all things floyd. suffice it to say i just didn't get it, and i remember actually being completely turned off at some of the content ("and the germans killed the jews and the jews killed the arabs and the arabs killed the hostages and that is the news..."). it's not an easy listen. but it's a rewarding listen. and i can't agree enough about how the 'amused to death' material was a highlight of the 99-00 shows, especially the "it's a miracle"/"amused to death" section.

and since it's the topic, just a reminder that 'amused to death' is getting the vinyl/sacd reissue treatment by analogue productions by the end of the year. FINALLY i'll be able to listen to the album on vinyl, and i will not have had to pay $400 to do so.

I also saw Roger in the In The Flesh tour, and it was pretty much the last time i saw him still as a solo artist...after that he just did those pink floyd tours and forgot about his solo material.

Those songs from ATD live were fucking awesome....

Tricky question. I'd put it below Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and Animals for sure. Probably below The Wall. Maybe below Meddle? Man, I don't know. This is hard. Definitely above any of the post-Wall stuff.
