Perhaps they're stockpiling their really truly great songs for later in their career?

I think everyone is in a new song aftersex glow and will all snap out of it in a day or so.
These are ok and great for their loose jamminess. They're not all that though.

I think Inside Job is great! CC and Inside Job would have complemented each other wonderfully on a record.

Cold Confession is infinitely superior sonically, musically and lyrically to most of their post Riot Act song releases.
Without any great amount of hyperbole, I think these two songs are clearly superior to anything the band has chosen for release on their previous two records.

I can't even imagine what kind of discussions they've gone through internally where work of this quality is decided against in favour of songs like Gone, Inside Job, Come Back, etc.

As an aside, I absolutely adore the withered, cracked quality of Ed's voice in Cold Confession. If you think it would sound better if sung in a smoother, lower register, I think you're simply wrong. It's so wonderfully characterful as it is.

They're ok.

I don't think that they are MUCH better than most of the songs since Riot Act.
I sure would have liked them on an album... but neither S/T nor Backspacer would have benefited that much IMO.

could it be that they leak now because both song are on the upcoming record?

The timing is weird...those tracks could have leaked every day since 2005. And now it happens...

either demo versions of songs they put on the record, or older demos released to generate interest, methinks.

As I explained somewhere earlier in the thread, I feel as though it's a clear indication that they're not on the new record.

It's possible someone's been hanging onto them but now feels safe to let them out as they've received confirmation that they didn't make it onto the new album either (after being passed over for inclusion on both S/T and Backspacer previously.) It's also possible this leak has been orchestrated by the band to both quietly let fans hear these tracks and build excitement for the new record.

Who do I have to kill to get a FLAC rip?

Can Kurtleon tell us where they came from?
It was his 'discovery'.

I'll be just stating my personal opinion, please forgive me if it sounds a bit harsh, but if this was sung by anyone not named Ed Vedder people would regard this recording as one of those "worst America's Got Talent audition" clips from Youtube.

I think I like mind your manners more than both of these. Cold Confession is really good. I'm not really feeling Let It Ride. It's fine, but I am not reaching for repeat.

I wish I didn't have meetings this morning so I could really give these time.

There are links for downloads in both this and the LB threads. If someone wants to post those links again I'll stick them in the first post.

the context of the song matters, though. It is meant to sound vulnerable and wounded, which he does.
