Re: Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado DEMOS
So let me get this straight. Songs like this have been sitting around for nearly a decade maybe and we have not had new music since Backspacer and then these very good songs show up after some possibly lackluster new songs? I seriously wish McCready was the one running the show. We would have had these years ago. So many strong songs left on the table over the years it is mind-numbing. Mishandled songs:
Brother
Yellow Ledbetter
Alone
Hold On
Down
Sad
Fatal
Puzzles and Games
Anything in Between (if finished)
Who is putting these albums together? Or just put out more albums

They're barely even sketches.

Re: Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado DEMOS
Okay, so what the shit?
I can actually understand these being seen as not really being "album worthy," but why would you not do anything with them at all? Put them out as b-sides? Nah, we don't do that anymore. Offer them to a soundtrack or something so they're out there? Nah, Ed will just write something brand ass new and forgettable.
Sadly, this discovery is lending credence to McCready's constant talk of an EP after each record. The band could probably have dropped another record at some point in the last ten years, but they've got this idea lately that the albums need to be the epicenter of some big event-style marketing thing, and should also be carefully controlled entities built to prove that they've still "got it."
You know, if they had finished up these songs and prepped them for a record, they are exactly the kind of context that could have made Of the Earth a really cool song, to me.

Thanks man good to know, I was being generous about Other Side. I really can't stand that song.Thejambi wrote:It's nothing like othersideRevelator wrote:So pissed I can't listen to these at work. Everyone's descriptions have me pretty anxious to hear them. I just hope the CC comparisons to Other Side are not true. Other Side is one of the very few PJ songs I really don't care for. Judging by the descriptions, CC sounds more interesting....

Ya these sound as finished as any of their christmas singles do to me, and we consider those proper songs. Then again they are just demos.stupidmop wrote:Not everysongs has to be complexley arranged and completely polished to be finisheddimejinky99 wrote:vedder316 wrote:These are real and they're spectacular.

Re: Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado DEMOS
CC would never make it on modern rock radio without a ton of "Fixin'". It just doesn't fit in between Atlas Genius, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Muse. MYM as a single makes much better sense, since hearing a PJ song on the radio can get people other than the hardcores interested in the band again for a while. And leaving CC off of the past two albums was also probably a good choice. It doesn't really fit thematically them. It would work alongside MYM, so here's hoping it makes the cut for Lightning Bolt.sbhalla6 wrote: Unfortunately, PJ has relied on the "play it safe" strategy for too long. I believe the exclusion of at track like Cold Concession and the release of a single like Mind Your Manners are both clear examples of this.

Based on first listen for all five songs....I prefer these two new "old" tunes to the three new LB tunes.
That says a lot.

Didn't one of the fake tracklistings have Cold Concession 2006 version as a bonus track?

I actually LOVE Otherside, but CC doesn't remind of it in the slightest. I get a Crazy Mary feel from it and that my friend gave me chills...Revelator wrote:Thanks man good to know, I was being generous about Other Side. Re: Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado DEMOS
Saw Kurt's original post last night and thought it was B.S. Glad it wasn't!
I do tend to think this leak was a strategic drop by someone in the know, though. While I don't think these will be on Lightning Bolt, maybe they were just a distraction from the bad feedback they've been seeing on the title track and Future Days?
I'm really enjoying these songs. Like others have said, there's the organic development in each song that's just been missing from the band since Riot Act. These just sound like a band all in the studio at the same time, just seeing where each song takes them. They just sound very connected to each other. There's some things that could be polished up with each, but I definitely think these should have been album tracks. Its baffling.
Maybe its the similarities in the outtros to previous songs?
McCready's outtro guitar in LIR is very similar to Half Full's.
The whole outtro in CC has a striking similarity to All or None's.
In either case, I like what one poster said - "this band is its own worst enemy. They are really getting in the way of their own greatness." I couldn't agree more.

I doubt these would be final takes on at very least Ed's vocals.Birds in Hell wrote:You're out of your mind, these are quite clearly finished recordings.dimejinky99 wrote:vedder316 wrote:These are real and they're spectacular.

Do either of these bear any relationship to the 'new song' that was recorded at the London soundcheck does anyone know?
