Have you heard of the US Government?dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Or Ava Duvernay.dimejinky99 wrote:Is it time for a female director to step in?
Patti Jenkins?
They've between wanting her in the Star Wars family for a long time. JJ even went to her for character help in TFA.
I'd be all about am Ava Duvernay Star Wars film.
She actually had an important role in TFA. JJ showed it her and she told him to tighten this up and cut that add this. She could be a contender for sure.
I've no doubt they already have someone locked in. You don't make a firing announcement without having your replacement locked in.

I just finished the new Leia book today. She's a main character in it. Huge exercise in creating connective tissue and laying groundwork to come in TLJ

Who would be your personal pick to replace Colin, team? Who is your #1 dream director for this particular project? Give me one no-holds barred choice and then (if necessary) one more practical choice that could actually happen.

I feel like that's where I'm at too. But maybe seeing TLJ will change that. I doubt it. But maybe.
Do you think either Gareth Edwards or Tony Gilroy could be in real contention for this?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
Spielberg is definitely the guy I'd like to give it to. If I could have any living director (that makes any kind of sense) make this, it's him. I'd love Rian to come back to do the script, though. Right now, my "realistic" dream list, in order, would be: Spielberg, Rian Johnson, Ava Duverney, Patty Jenkins, JJ Abrams.
But if I could have anyone? Anyone at all? It would totally be David Lynch. I'd fucking LOVE to see him make a Star Wars movie his way. It will never happen. But man!
Or Fincher. He'd be fun, too.

He's probably too busy with the Fantastic Beasts series, but David Yates knows how to focus on characters and get the fuck out of the way.
Spielberg made Crystal Skull. Love him, but no thanks.
I hope that in reworking the script they move the movie back to Christmas 2019, Avatar be damned.

They'll never give it to Luc Besson, but that would be fun
