Lastly, I'm really staring to think its production that's killing PJ. Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that they should go into the studio with Albini or someone similar that would force them to keep it basic, record it "live" and not over think it. Which is what I think these guys need. These two tracks are beautiful just because of their lack of polish. I'm quite happy that the guys are still capable of doing songs like this, but if they're going to hide them for years, and choose songs with generic handclaps and crowd call-backs, what's the point?

I was listening to Lost Dogs recently, and Last Kiss came on, which I believe they recorded live from a soundcheck. And regardless of our feelings on the song, it sounds fucking incredible. I've often thought that PJ should do a Time Fades Away / New Adventures in Hi-Fi kind of thing, where they go on tour and record their soundchecks and live shows to make the record.

That being said, I think it holds less appeal to me now. I'm still a huge fan of the experience of going to a PJ concert; I always leave invigorated. But I'd have to admit that in terms of straight up performances of songs, they have taken a big hit over time.

Organic build. Cathartic release. Not some artificial "clap your hands, this part is building and then yeah yeah yeah" approach...

The bouncy guitar a the beginning, stones "lead" lines near the outro while Mccready wails in the back ground. Stone plays this incredibly groovy (textbook stone riffs) guitar line while working off Aments bass lines; which are solidly locked in with Cameron.

Also, eds voice. The phrasing. They are subtle and he is holding a strong emotion while the song naturally climaxes.

So great.

Can't you picutre Stone heavily grooving some duck neck for both these songs.

If the last 2 slbums were full of songs like these I believe the "hardcores" - those that travel for a dozen shows a tour would be more on board with them. The less hardcore would have completely dropped off the band. They'd be 3 or 4 lines down on a major festival poster and the general music listening public (I'm talking like Stereogum or Consequence of Sound readers, people who go to music festivals) would have written them off and they would be looking at a career like where John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, Black Crowes or Los Lobos are right now. Not a bad thing, but people would be whining about why they're stuck in this lot instead of conquering fesitvals. Instead I think they're at the cusp of having a period that Springsteen just had. Putting out decent albums and rocking huge amounts of people. Maybe not like the "salad" days of 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' or 'Nebraska' but still kicking tons of ass. My comments here are not about commercial success, but about relevance, two different things.

I would guess they are from a Avocado Demo disc... So its possible that some of the avocado songs are on it. But its just a blind guess

I understand what you are saying, but why have a song like Big Wave or Supersonic on an album instead of one of these? It would not impact any of what you are saying.

I hold out a glimmer of hope that after the first leg of the fall tour ends in New Orleans, they stay down there and record some stuff, then two weeks later start the second leg. You know, like the olden days.

I honestly hope no one is thinking that the 'general public' is any more or less "on board" now because of Backspacer. The propaganda has been working if we think that.

I think this is so unlikely. PJ continues to be commercially successful primarily because they have a massive fanbase that is going to buy the new stuff. There's no way to say for sure, but I have no doubt in my mind that PJ could have released two records of stuff like this and still embark on the exact same tour they'll be doing this fall.

Yep, I haven't hear Let it Ride because the youtube link was shut off and soon will be Cold Confession. WTF PJ? Why do you do this? why do you leave the best songs off the record? Been doing it for forever. Anybody got a PM for me so I can downlowad both songs? Maybe these will find their way onto the new record, but I highly doubt it. Can't they let somebody outside of the band pick the tracks on the record because they would put the best ones on.
