Ill still destroy you is the only song I dont care for. They have done this song a hundred times before. That same drum beat is prominent throughout their career i feel.

Really? I think it's an extremely unique song for them and arguably the best of the album.Strat wrote:Ill still destroy you is the only song I dont care for. They have done this song a hundred times before. That same drum beat is prominent throughout their career i feel.

I also believe that the opening track is the weakest of the bunch though. Too Trouble Will Find Me esque.

Re: The National
The drumming is what pissed me off about their most recent Red Rocks show. The kick was just so much overkill a d overpowered everything else.Strat wrote:Ill still destroy you is the only song I dont care for. They have done this song a hundred times before. It's good, but it's the first record where I can sort of understand the prominent caricature of the national being that dreary boring tuneless band that seems to annoy some people.PHATJ wrote:TotesChris_H_2 wrote:Guys, Trouble Will Find Me is amazing.

wow. I wasn't expecting something so different. Singer guy actually raises his voice a couple of times. I think I like it. We'll see.

I think I'll Still Destroy You is perfect.
Walk It Back sounds like a really polished song that's from their self-titled. It's old, old-school National.
Early rankings:
The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness
Day I Die
I'll Still Destroy You
Empire Line
Dark Side of the Gym
Turtleneck
Guilty Party
Born to Beg
Sleep Well Beast
Carin at the Liquor Store
Walk it Back
Nobody Else Will Be There

Re: The National
I love this album.
I get what Strat is saying about the drum in I Will Destroy You. Very similar to other drums patterns and pace. It's almost their signature. But I still love it. And there's lots of little details happening alongside them.
