Luke knows she is coming. Or someone is. He can't get into the temple without someone with force ability. As with kanan and Ezra. She only agrees to help him get in if he trains her. So they strike a bargain. Rian says he isn't hiding on the island he's there with a purpose. Rey is the key to that literally.

Not the case. He did have to help maul in that scenario same situation but he and kanan also needed each other to gain access to that Jedi temple where they fought the temple guards with the white sabers (badass!) and he meets / experiences Yoda in his force vision.

Same applies to both it seems. He needed kanan with him to get the new crystal or whatever it was had them there. His dumb blaster cum lightsaber had been destroyed.
