How fussy are you?

Post by Fortuna »

I bought strawberries today. My little girl tried to pick every single pip off. I've never seen anything like it!

Not fussy.

Not in a restaurant, I hope. Where you pay for the food.

I'm a very picky eater. I've gotten a little better since I was a kid but I admit I have a bland palate and my diet is still mostly meat/potato (or other carb).
You know how kids sometimes gag when they try new things? That's me too.
I totally understand Fortuna's little girl picking the strawberry. I've picked through many a plate in my lifetime.

Do you have a problem with skins on food as well? She has to peel off the outer layer of potatoes, sausages, tomatoes or anything you can think of with an edible skin. Also "brown bits" are an issue. Like a bruise on fruit or the bits you get in potatoes. Basicly, by the time she's done, there's nothing left.

I knew a boy that ate nothing but cereal until he was about 16 as well.

I was a horribly fussy child and wouldn't eat most fruit or any vegetables that didn't come from a can. I wouldn't eat any seafood at all, and any meat had to be cooked to death. When I was pregnant with my middle son I craved prawns, and bloody steak all the way through but couldn't have them. Since then I've been much more adventurous with food. I'm not fussy any more apart from with offal. I'll avoid that at all costs.

I was brought up on meat "that had been cooked to death". High five!

I keep reading this thread title as "How pussy are you?" I'm not really that fussy, but I'm a pretty big pussy. My brother wanted to skydive and I paid the money (about $250) and went to the long-ass class with him, only to chicken out in the plane.

I don't think I'd jump out of a plane either.

I've outgrown that but at her age I was the same way, though I did like skins on my french fries.
I was one of those kids too that couldn't have my foods touch on a plate. Still am to a lesser degree.
First thing to get picked off my plate? Onions followed by peppers. I liked pickles as a kid (not as much today interestingly) but not on hamburgers. More than one fast food burger was taken back because it came with pickles. And you couldn't just pick the off because I could still taste the "pickle juice". And it was always a hamburger for me, never a cheeseburger.
When I get pizza even today I get cheese only.

I'm not at all fussy. There are a few things I don't LOVE (greasy food, etc) and will avoid, but I'll still eat it if there's nothing else available.

I grew up without a choice as to what I ate. I had to sit at the table until I ate my veggies or whatever it was I didn't want to eat. Today, I'll eat just about anything except that I'm not a fan of raw tomatoes. I like just about any tomato product ever made, but not the raw tomato by itself.
