If you like a formulaic, forgettable rock song, then yes.

I like it fine when I listen to it, but that's the only time I even remember its existence.

Highlights:
Force of Nature
The Fixer
Johnny Guitar
Speed of Sound (w/ lasers or w/out)

Lowlights:
Amongst the Waves (amongst their worst songs)
Unthought Known
Supersonic (bridge is still awesome though)
Gonna See My Friend

Im adding GSMF and ATW to my list of highlights.
Gross. Both of these songs just reek of going through the motions.
It took me a long time to finally like ATW, but once you are there...i love the groove.

I've mentioned this before, but I just can't get past the verses. They are terrible.

Amongst the Waves is one of the only songs on Backspacer that I really grave and actively seek out. I goddamn love it.

Amongst the wages is by a huge distance the weakes thing in this collection of songs and the lamest thing pj has done in this period. Reaching for and falling far short of a former brilliant place. It's so painfully obvious what they're trying to do and failing at it. It's almost embarrassing

A rare instance of two camps with very little middle ground.

I've heard so many arguments and none of them hold water. There's nothing embarrassing about Amongst the Waves. There is no "failure" or reach for former glory or any of that nonsense. If that's why a listener doesn't like the song, then that's on the listener. That's the listeners own bullshit baggage that they're bringing to the experience.

Which is not to say that it's impossible to hate the song. I totally get why a person would hate it. There are legitimate reasons to dislike it. But "Reaching for and falling far short of a former brilliant place" just isn't one of them.

It sounds like a U2 song from 2004

They stopped playing it quite quickly in the live setting. It aimed to be a huge big statement song. And in the album you could be fooled to hearing that. But it never worked from the bottom up. It isn't among the great pearl jam songs and it set out to be as an intent.

Yeah, I'm not mad at anyone for disliking it or anything. Different strokes and all that.

I have no beef with U2. In all seriousness. I'm just not a super fan. I'm much more familiar with their earlier stuff.
