She's sleeping in her bathtub. She's at least 90. I haven't the foggiest idea how she's going to get in and out of there w/o her aid. She was complaining to my wife today that her aid didn't come on Sundays.

Same. It flickered a few times. At one point power was out for maybe 15 seconds. Ironically, the friends we would have stayed with in Georgia if we had left have been without power for 24+ hours now.

The roof of our neighbor's shed ended up in our backyard, and both neighbor's privacy fences came down. We lost a tree in the front yard, but all things considered, we did really well. No flooding or standing water.

Trump administration forcing Puerto Rico evacuees to pay for transportation: report

The Trump administration is reportedly forcing evacuees from Puerto Rico to sign promissory notes ensuring full repayment for transportation costs and is keeping evacuees' passports as collateral.

Market Watch reported on Thursday that the State Department is using a longstanding but discretionary policy to ensure that evacuees pay transportation costs, which are based on of "the price of the last commercial one-way, full-fare (not discounted) economy ticket prior to the crisis."

Passports won't be returned to evacuees until payment is received, according to the news outlet, which cited the State Department's website.

"Upon evacuation, a Department of State official must limit an evacuee's passport. In order to obtain a new passport, an evacuee must arrange payment as agreed upon via the promissory note," the website reads.

I truly hope, but am not at all hopeful, that people will learn from the disgraceful results of the protectionist Jones Act and realize that this is exactly what protectionism and "America First" and anti-competition policies cause.

The victims aren't usually so obviously victimized, so this provides a unique opportunity help people rethink their prior assumptions of policies that insulate American companies from competition.
