It also seems, to me, that Soundgarden is valued far higher than Nirvana. Maybe I'm wrong there but there's no way RM is "SP crazy."

Two songs left vs Soundgarden with zero. Not much of a beating.theplatypus wrote:There is a small amount of very vocal Smashing Pumpkins fans but look at the beating they've taken.

Re: 234. Jesus Christ Pose vs. Smells Like Teen Spirit
There is something in the statement that some people are very vocal (about SP especially), but Nirvana has had consistently strong results in this tournament, and has received plenty of praise in thread after thread. Certainly far more than I felt or expected.durdencommatyler wrote:It also seems, to me, that Soundgarden is valued far higher than Nirvana. Maybe I'm wrong there but there's no way RM is "SP crazy."

Yeah but the smashing pumpkins were destroyed in the early rounds. The singles have done ok.
I might agree with Nirvana being overrated here but they're also probably the most universally praised band of these too. There's probably something I don't see.

I'll agree that Gish and Aeroplane did poorly in the pre-tournament, although only after a large amount of complaints. But Siamese Dream has done amazingly well. Mellon Collie not too shabby.chewm wrote:Yeah but the smashing pumpkins were destroyed in the early rounds. The singles have done ok.

Then again, the difference in quality between Siamese Dream and Gish is monumental. So it's not odd.

"Amazingly well" is a massive overstatement considering how great those songs are and how weak some of the junk they were up against is

Shouldn't this right here prove that JCP is the only correct choice here??

I love all six bands, so I can't agree with that. I respect your taste, but you have made it clear that you are almost never voting for a couple of the bands, no matter the match.LoathedVermin72 wrote:"Amazingly well" is a massive overstatement considering how great those songs are and how weak some of the junk they were up against is

To be fair there are like at least 3 posters who did this for SP.

Also, I have absolutely voted for some SG and AIC songs. Just not very many since they're usually outclassed.

I like Gish, but I think I like all their other albums up to and including Machina better.
Rhinoceros and Snail still got robbed though.

Re: 234. Jesus Christ Pose vs. Smells Like Teen Spirit
In with the last late night vote... Jesus Christ Pose all the way.
Smells Like Teen Spirit is probably tourney winning worthy though just for what it is, and as a lot of people have mentioned it really is a song that doesn't get old. I actually haven't heard it a ton in years but it holds up too though.
As for the Smashing Pumpkins round, Gish is a great debut album and all their records were great in this period. I think Adore is boring and Machina is pretty bad from what I remember, and everything after that is self parody level hilarious in how bad it is. Like Backspacer, but probably worse for the most part.
