I'd probably say the same as Burt. Political music is a noble concept and often expresses crucial sentiments but more often than not the execution just doesn't deliver.

It depends on how you qualify "political" music, too. A lot of people like to place tight limits on the term, but you'll never sell me that songs like Street Fighting Man, Sympathy for the Devil, Tomorrow Never Knows, Mississippi Goddamn, That's the Way, White Riot, Listening Wind, and on and on aren't explicitly tied to some combination of expressed worldview or values, current event/social change, and/or desire to express dissatisfaction with something beyond the basic personal.

I am pointing out that if people are going to take a knee about cops shooting black people ( under questionable circumstances pretty much every time) Why not take a knee about black guys raping white women? Why is that not on the forefront of the news? These are issues outside of myself, my best friend growing up was black, he was like a brother to me, a lot of black people I know agree and are embarrassed by ghetto acting people

So many white women are raped by black men, why is this not a story? Yet shit talking police officers who put their lives on the line is on the forefront and spun so hard that it causes marches, riots and protests. The media plays everyone.

I'm pretty sure knee tunes thinks you're a racist precisely because you're not using facts, but rather just spouting anecdotal ideas about race and crime that sound like they're coming out of an early-20th-century piece of racial propaganda. It took me around 20 seconds of Googling to find statistics having to do with sexual violence and rape, and--guess what--they don't back up the narrative you're spinning:



Every single one of the individual crimes represented in a graph like that (I wish I had something more recent than 2013, but for a statistical study, getting something 4 years old is pretty good) is fucking abhorrent, and I shudder to even just talk about them as "numbers" and not world-shattering events for each and every victim, but they don't jive with the view of the crimes that you have (keep in mind, too, that something like 70% of victims of sexual assault know their attacker, so any narrative that implies an "us vs. them," or one community seeping into another to defile them also isn't backed up by statistics). There's a vibe in your comments that sounds like the Charleston church shooter, who also was ignorant of facts like these. I'm not saying that you're going to do something like him, but it's not good company to keep.

I haven't seen a single person on this board suggest that violence like what we see in Chicago isn't a problem. I also think most people here believe that each and every perpetrator needs to be held responsible for their actions. That doesn't preclude the idea that the situation has been exacerbated by a history of ghettoization and segregation, or by policing policies that target people of color. It's not all about cops killing young black men, either--it's about racial profiling, mandatory minimums for non-violent crimes, getting pulled over and asked "Boy, where you headin'?" without probable cause, and a litany of other ways in which communities are made to feel like the subject of state surveillance instead of protection (see Ferguson, MO, no matter what you think of Michael Brown's death).

You can hold two thoughts in your head at the same time: (a) people who commit crimes should be punished and (b) we should try to get at the root of why violence persists in certain communities and work together to stamp it out. I don't think this is a particularly liberal/lefty idea, although it'll probably get labeled as one, and I also don't think it's fucking hard.
