Had a Collette Saison from Great Divide last night and was pleasantly surprised. I'm usually not much of a GD fan.

Here's a question ... can you really call a beer a "session beer" if it costs $10 a six pack?
BeerAdvocate wrote:Any beer that contains no higher than 5 percent ABV, featuring a balance between malt and hop characters (ingredients) and, typically, a clean finish - a combination of which creates a beer with high drinkability. The purpose of a session beer is to allow a beer drinker to have multiple beers, within a reasonable time period or session, without overwhelming the senses or reaching inappropriate levels of intoxication.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Sure. I personally go cheaper if I'm pounding a sixer but some people would have no problem with it.B wrote:Here's a question ... can you really call a beer a "session beer" if it costs $10 a six pack?

Should a session beer be affordable so that most people can afford to sit around a campsite drinking it?

Ive never understood the fascination with the cost some people seem to have with craft beer and it's cost. If you can afford it, buy it. If you think it's too expensive? Dont buy it. Go buy 15 bud lights for 10 bucks. And to some people, bud light's too expensive, so they buy Busch or Natty.B wrote:Should a session beer be affordable so that most people can afford to sit around a campsite drinking it?
$20 buys you 2 beers at a baseball game. It gets you 12 beers if you're paying 10 for a sixer. It costs more, but if you're going to enjoy it that much more, then it's worth it.
The term session beer should not be in anyway impacted by how much it costs.

No doubt. It has to do with the taste, balance and drinkability of the beer.

I don't know. I mean, when you can get a good beer with a higher alcohol content at the same or even a lower price, it does kinda defeat the purpose of a session beer to me.

It depends on the beer. I drink craft beer mainly for the taste so ABV isn't that much of a concern except for how it affects the taste and balance of the beer. I've had 4.5%ers that taste just as good as a lot of big beers out there.lefty wrote:I don't know. The only time I've ever bitched at the cost of beer is when breweries decided to focus on profits more than anything and shifted from offerings in 6 packs to 4 packs for the same price (e.g., Green Flash and its West Coast).

Beer comes in all sorts of price tags. Hell, sometimes ABV doesnt matter. Hopslam is a hell of a session beer.

So Green Flash is opening a brewery south of VA Beach in Sandbridge. I just drove by the sign. I Wonder if the prices on the East Coast will come down or if we get 6 packs again

Doubtful, the break they get from East Coast distribution will fill in to the main for the losses found in the middle of the country. My opinion of course.Electromatic wrote:So Green Flash is opening a brewery south of VA Beach in Sandbridge. I just drove by the sign. Grabbed a sixer of an awesome session beer. Fullers London Pride. Such a delicious easy drinker.
