Tom was never an artist I dug deep into; instead, he was an artist that just seemed to have a way of finding his way to me at the right times, in moderate doses, when what I needed was music that demanded nothing more than to be enjoyed. His "Greatest Hits" album is real "scrapbook of my life" stuff -- one of the most sterling single disc compilations ever loosed upon the market. A sad loss.

this is harder for me than losing Cornell. Cornell was like a part of my childhood died off. Tom Petty was still very active in my life and one that I would very much look forward to have new music from. His recent albums were still in regular rotation for me.
I dont want to live in a world where there is Tom Petty and Donald Trump is president.

An absolute legend and one of the best American song writers of all time. Thanks for the music, Tom.

I'm already sick of hearing this scrub's shitty songs.
Was there a Tom Petty XM station like Pearl Jam has or something? The radio station at work yesterday literally played nothing but Tom Petty when the news broke, I'm guessing they switched it if that exists.

You're god damned right there's a Tom Petty station. It's wonderful and I really hope the Benmont Tench show continues.

I can't say that any of these musicians meant enough to me to make me break down emotionally, but this Tom Petty death feels like the Prince death in a lot of ways. This was the music I grew up with, the music that even meant something to my parents. These guys were a bit larger than life. I've listened to hundreds of hours more STP and Soundgarden than Prince and Petty, but the impact of the true legends runs deep.

TL;DR Tom Petty shows meant a lot to me growing up and I'm kinda broken up about it.
I am not much of a writer at all, but I felt like I needed to put my thoughts about this somewhere. I hope RM will indulge me on this.

That was great Mecca. It really is incredible how much of our lives can become attached to these experience that the artists we love most provide us with.
Its heartbreaking. It is for me, at least.
