Look forward to getting back into this. Feel like I should start from the very beginning, but not sure I will enjoy it as much as the first time. Will watch the new season though. There are few series that can compete for laughs, when CYE is at its best.

So I've never really watched this show. I've seen bits and pieces, but whatever I see appears to be awkward, unrehearsed scenes, that look like they're mostly done ad lib. Is this the case for the whole show? Does it become endearing, and does it grow on you?

I feel as though I'd like to give it a go. Looking at random clips on youtube, it seems kind of funny. i.e. I liked the scene where he becomes an accidental mile high hero.

Is his show pretty much like Seinfeld, i.e. pretty much about nothing, and similar humor. But less rehearsed, lower budget, etc.? What's the appeal, and is it worth venturing into?

Genuine post, btw.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Seriously though, thanks. As long as I venture into it fully clear on the concept/aim, I believe I'll enjoy it more.

The appeal is that it's great. What kind of question is that.

Despite the fact that it's only lightly scripted, I think part of the appeal is getting to know the characters as the seasons go on. They don't grow or develop very much--except for maybe Sammy, and that's only because she's literally growing--but you get to understand their tics, their insecurities, their loves, their hates, and so on, and then when they're thrown into awkward situations you get to see how they react. Sure, sometimes you can predict what's going to happen, but sometimes it's much, much worse than you thought, and that's where the episodes really shine.

I admit, it is great. For those reasons and many others.

For example, I just Googled "Larry singing after having sex with a Palestinian woman" for a quick laugh. God bless this show.

Watched five minutes of the first ever episode yesterday, and already started laughing. Think I have to start from the beginning. Not sure I have ever seen all the episodes.

Larry in the shower reminds me of that time on The Simpsons when we saw Montgomery Burns in the shower.

The appeal is that it's the best show in the history of comedic television. Maybe any television.

I had the same idea. I have a similar shirt & jacket already; the wig/mustache/glasses combination should not be hard to find in a pop up Halloween shop.
Funkhauser reminds me of Frankenstein's monster. The Larry David double made me laugh as did the big comic finale.
Solid episode, so happy to have this series back.

The new Leon who's a little more philosophical and principled while still being a total idiot is probably my favorite thing about the new season. His little looks of judgement are killing me.
