What movies are you watching?

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Not only am I cursed with the "cilantro tastes like soap" gene, I also have the "alcohol is terrible" gene. Working in Portland so many people suggest beers and always say, 'Oh this one doesn't taste bitter at all!" and it's bitter. Makes going out with coworkers difficult because I'm the guy at the end of the table drinking water.

I really didn't see anything good in it.

Even if its a flawed adaptation from a wonderful book, the movie is great in its own terms. Its maybe a little closer to Nightmare On Elm Street? Maybe. But its great ride.

What about the adaptation do you think wasn't accurate to the book?

Well the book is huge. Its not just about the boys and It, its about the fear and the bad things than happened in the town. It seems more like a representation of the bad things the people in Derry did in the past. Its about the fear you have being a kid, the adults, etc.

Its impossible to put that in the big screen, they did a good job capturing most of that stuff.

I don't know man, I read that book a couple times when I was a teenager. Granted it's been about 22 years since I last picked it up, but the movie seemed to match with my recollection of the events and overall tone of the kids' parts of the book perfectly (the ending notwithstanding); my takeaway is that any compromises they may have made to make it work on screen were executed really well, because the overall impression I got was virtually identical to my experience reading the kids' chapters of the book.

Yeah, i get what you say and i agree. They nailed the casting, and overall they did get the tone of the book. What i meant its that to be faithful to the whole book, to derry's story in time is impossible...sometimes it felt weird, more in common with Freddy Krueger than a true town menace coming from the horrors of the adult world.

But its a cool movie no doubt about it.

I read an article discussing a scene from The Remains of the Day (1993) and it gushes about how amazing Anthony Hopkins is in a particular scene, subtly conveying lots of emotions by doing very little.

Now, I've never seen the film. Is it worth a watch? Is Hopkins great? Is Emma Thompson good in it?
