Re: St. Vincent - S/T (Feb 25)
Sure. I guess. But, to be fair, a couple of dudes on a defunct Pearl Jam board isn't really "maximum reach." It's barely "talking about it." Is there a hashtag? Is it all over the internet? I just found that one article this morning and it wasn't even through her feed. It was just a Google search I did for St. Vincent news. And it was like the fifth thing down. Maybe it's caught fire since then. I'm at work and it's been a complete shitshow, so I haven't really had time to breath and follow any hashtags or anything.theplatypus wrote:Doesn't it make sense that the exposure comes afterwards? After the event, with all the writeups and hashtags and shares? Like now. Like how we're discussing it now.durdencommatyler wrote:Those aren't the only two options. I just remember something like that happening for Backspacer or Lightning Bolt or one of those, so it was in my mind as one way of doing it.theplatypus wrote:Why are those the two only options?durdencommatyler wrote:Yeah, again, I think that sounds like a lot of fun and much more interesting that sitting around a big room on some throw pillows listening to new tracks. To each their own, I suppose.
Like I said earlier I am not against artists doing this kind of stuff, I'd just like it to be artful and interesting and not a crass, corporate cash-in on a hot trend (the current escape room fad) for maximum exposure.
I hear what you're saying. I have no beef with it, either. I think we just disagree on how this comes across. And how come if these things are done for "maximum exposure" I never hear about them until after the fact? That's not a knock on your statement, it's a legit question! I live in NYC. I follow St. Vincent on all social media platforms and Spotify. I work in Times Square. And I had no idea about this event or the House of Peroni until after they happened.
I mean, Christ! I'm so totally out of every loop. No artist will ever hit "maximum exposure" until I hear about it, I swear to god. The worst.
Either way, I'm happy if she gets the exposure. She deserves it. A person with her level of talent and personality deserves to reach as many people as possible.

I agree with that last part. And the rollout is really just a minor annoyance. I just really hated the part about the pills with "sadness" and "anxiety" and all that shit, that's some Muse-level tackiness. Actually this is 100% something I could see Muse doing.

I'm choosing not to listen to any more tracks until I have the album in my hot little hand. But for those who are interested, she debuted two new songs ('Hang on Me' and 'Pills') live in L.A. last night.

Re: St. Vincent - S/T (Feb 25)
And I died.Of course, this has long been the St. Vincent way — pairing highly stylized concepts with songs that are wry yet solemn, and creating sounds that exist in some previously unoccupied zone between pop and the avant-garde. But with Fear the Future, Clark’s vision feels both more immediate and fully realized than anything she’s done before. It’s proof positive that she is an army of one. And there’s nothing surreal about that.
