Why would they leave out a top two movie from the saga? Because it was billed as a stand-alone film?

I watched this again recently. It's so good. I know it had it's issues, but it moves fast and it really is a nice piece to a new hope.

I'm watching this for the first time in months. I still maintain that the first half hour are slow, but once they test the Death Star for the first time and destroy Jedha it really picks up.

Rogue One is awesome because it really shows the damage the Death Star can do, and does it beautifully. The shot where Krennic and co are looking down at the dust cloud/fireball is gorgeous.

I did the same thing this week! Some great sequences and the last 45 minutes still kept me on the edge of my seat.
I really do think of this it as Episode IIIb. It retro fits beautifully into A New Hope.

This isn't a knock on Rogue One, so calm down idiots.

So, in the timeline of star wars and the movie releases.....our first time seeing Darth Vader after ROTS is when he meets Krennic. At this point when he enters the screen he is completely feared and larger than life being. Krennic basically shits himself with the thought of having to stand face to face with him. Mr. Vader throws his muscle around via his verbal accusations and bullying.

Thats all great and dandy, if you have never seen the fucking prequels.

The only reason Vader works in that scene is because of what we bring with us from our experiences growing up with the OT.

The last time we saw Vader was him being a whiny little bitch and subservient to his emotions and Palpatine. Literally a pathetic and groveling thing.

Basically what im saying is - Fuck the prequels man. Fuck them.

I feel sorry for the children who watch this shit in Chronological order. If i ever have kids....

Obviously Vader/Anakin was young and immature once, and we all have to grow into something. Still Krennic should have feared meeting Anakin from ROTS, he would probably have ended up dead. This is him 30 years later. Years where he has held a powerful position in the empire as the terrible leader Darth Vader. I think we are supposed to look at Vader in disgust, not in awe. The prequels would have failed if they ended with us loving and respecting Vader.

*19 years later.

Still, your points hold.

Also, Strat... the way around it is to have your kids read the Darth Vader comic series that takes place after ROTS before watching R1. That series is SO badass. The stuff they're doing to show Vader becoming Vader is just... I mean...
