Just watched it with the kids. I've got mixed feelings at the moment. It certainly didn't feel like a geniune Star Wars film. I didn't get those tingles yet, that I got with both TFA and Rogue 1 trailers.

Chewie is certainly CGI in that shot with the porg, which annoys me. He's never been CGI before AFAIK, since he doesn't need to be.

Regarding the plot, it looks like there could be some twists. Misdirection could be present here, so who knows?

Anyway, I've booked my tickets. Rian better not have fucked this up.

Current mood/reaction:

Yeah - I wasn't happy with CGI Chewie

Based on that alone it's safe to say its shot down any BS notion of it being Empire redux. Can't get over how good it looks visually. It's like concentrated Star Wars. Looks visually different. Can't tell if it's visuals or direction

What do you mean? Visuals are part of direction

Agreed. I can't put my finger on it though.

I don't know. There's something off about how he looks in that clip

Actually, I think I know what it is. There's a distinct lack in post production visual effects in most of those shots.

It's a different actor playing him now too tho. The eyes are almost identical but just different enough to notice. And he's moving slightly differently than we're used to as well I think.

It's also the severe juxtaposition of the bright open air stuff contrasted with all the other shots feeling dark and close. Lotta close up shots too camera right on top of its subject.

It was. But he may have been talking to Rey. And Luke is talking about Raw power to someone later in the trailer, presumably Rey...
There is a ton of who was talking to who in this trailer.

Was Rey talking to Luke, Snoke, or Ren about needing someone to show her her place?
Was Luke talking to Rey or flashing back to Ren's betrayal?
Was Snoke talking to Ren or Rey?
Was the porg talking to Maz?

Trying to teach my kids about how trailers can mix up the order of things to get you excited and leave you with questions has been very difficult.

Basically, I just told them that this is not going to go the way they think.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

That wasn't a CGI Chewie. He just looked like he recently had a bath.

I'm excited to see this in a couple of months but the trailer didn't leave me super excited.
