Re: Cavedweller: Matt Cameron
I thought it was mainly recorded before the final Soundgarden tour? I’m sure Matt mentioned somewhere that he had played it for Chris.

Just reread the Rolling stone article. I think i was wrong and most are reasonably recent at least starting around early 2016.tragabigzanda wrote:Did not know this. Will have to listen (and where can I read lyrics?) again and consider this.Strat wrote:Isn't it actually old song ideas from over the past couple of years that he felt he needed to complete and get out there since Chris' death?

This is so good and just keeps getting better. It's a pity that matt's garage rock tendencies never got fully assimilated into pj.

I think they have. Songs like: The Fixer, Evacuation, Get Right, In the Moonlight, You Are, Johnny Guitar, and also Big Wave and Ole are either Matt originals or very very Matt-influenced. I personally love those tunes.guestT wrote:This is so good and just keeps getting better. It's a pity that matt's garage rock tendencies never got fully assimilated into pj.
I hope we get a couple of more Matt tunes on the next one. I think Lightning Bolt was missing his songwriting.

Re: Cavedweller: Matt Cameron
I love them too, but if you go to PJdb most of those songs are near the top of the "longest time since last played" list, and some have only been played recently because they played the whole album at the show. He's practically invisible on LB. The Fixer, sure, but listen to his original demo, then listen to Cavedweller, then listen to what PJ turned The Fixer into. I hope he brings something to the next record, but won't be surprised if he holds his best stuff back for himself.Tuolumne wrote:I think they have. Re: Cavedweller: Matt Cameron
Hi team,
I've recently discovered that I love Cavedweller. The mastering is bad, but every song has so many cool little details once you give it attention. (I do like all MC written PJ Tracks)
all at once sounds like never the machine forever/by crooked steps.
through the ceiling has cool bridges, each with different mixing and odd changes.
blind sounds like the dandy warhols
anyway. does anyone who actually likes this album have a review on the vinyl? I now want it but i cant find it for under $80AUD shipped, and then i would be displeased if it were to be a shit pressing with no better mastering than the digital files i have.

Re: Cavedweller: Matt Cameron
The USD must have went down, I've finally bought a vinyl copy! (first thing I've bought from 10c since 2010? maybe)
I also haven't bought any new vinyl for about year or so i'm kinda excited. I made a rule to not buy any more vinyl as I have too much, but got tricked by this comment on the masterdisk website...
"Notes by Scott Hull
This record sounds fucking awesome. Sorry for the "language" but it's true. How this record was made to sound this way in 2018 is a mystery to me. Hats off to the production (Matt) and recording and mix engineers ( John and Josh).
Why does is sound so good? It was made like a record would have been made 20 years ago. It’s Full of analog energy and professionally crafted sounds. And it isn't shouting all the way. It takes you on a journey.
I hear rock records all day, and this one always sounds great. But, you have to hear the vinyl to hear what i’m talking about. The digital version of this album is great, and it sounds a lot like any good rock record. But the vinly screams 1990 to my ears. Seattle had a sound and the world was just hearing it on the big stage.
Drums, of course, are great on this record—epic! But I love how the guitars fit together. This is a record I just put on the turntable, turn up, sit back, and listen ( picture the Maxell Tape add from many years ago). If you don’t agree I’ll buy the record back from you

I don't know if I ever checked this out before, but I gave it a spin yesterday. There's some really neat stuff going on here, and with more listens this could be a pretty good album.

'Time Can't Wait' is a truly great song. I don't really remember much else from it - time for a refresh
