I like Cold Confession and I'm currently lukewarm on Let It Ride. The latter sounds a bit bumbly and awkward, especially Ed's vocal delivery.
I'm digging CC though.

Can someone put new links up to these songs? I'm getting tired of all the PMs asking for it.

I'm just going to reiterate a point about this being early excitement for new rare songs, which can often bias someone's objective impression of the song. If you're giving the songs a rating of 4, I was just curious what other songs would come close or be comparable for you. I just think 4 is a pretty strong rating for songs of this calibre. That's all.harmless wrote:Is this really a question? 'How can you...?' can usually be met with 'Because I did.' I'm not comparing it to a range of other songs in the canon, I'm just giving it an enjoyment score. Everything about these songs is so very enjoyable that they have a 4, in spite of being very basic structurally and not having a bridge. For me, a bridge which took the song temporarily somewhere else, would give them that extra point.southp wrote:how can you put both of these songs at 4/5 yet go on to say that they both need more structurally and one of them doesn't have a bridge? I consider every song / album since and during S/T to be by a different PJ than the one I grew up with. Not a single song since Riot Act would get a 4 in the same way that GTF would've been given a 4 back then because it wasn't everything that it could've been. But that gauge is virtually useless now, because GTF is a masterpiece compared to the new output. So my 4/5 is compared only to everything else off S/T (the best of which only gets a 3.5 from me) and afterwards. However, having said all that, I do believe these two new b-sides stack up with all of the old stuff, and the only reason I can imagine that they didn't go on S/T is that they were brilliant and everything else from S/T was not.southp wrote:I'm just going to reiterate a point about this being early excitement for new rare songs, which can often bias someone's objective impression of the song. The long recording lull hasn't hurt Pearl Jam, Ament said, because playing with the band is "kind of like riding a bike at this point." In fact, for the first time since the sessions for 1993's Vs., the always-behatted bassist said Pearl Jam have been collaborating on the material, rather than coming into the process with the songs already written.dadanotprada wrote:http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1502710/pearl-jam-post-therapy-sex-better-than-ever.jhtml

It would be interesting to see more of these preview comments about LB tracks and compare when we actually get the album.dadanotprada wrote:http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1502710/pearl-jam-post-therapy-sex-better-than-ever.jhtml

So far, the band's written a total of 25 songs, but the final track listing will have around a dozen songs — and the decision about which tracks make the final cut largely rests with "Ed, because he's writing 95 percent of the lyrics," Ament said. But the bassist did reveal some potential song names: "Marker," "Crapshoot Rapture," "Worldwide Suicide," "Cold Concession," "2X4" and "Severed Hand."
Ament singled out two other tracks as his current favorites. "One is called 'Of the Earth,' that's a song Ed wrote that is kind of a cross between early Peter Gabriel/ Genesis and Sleater-Kinney with, like, the Who's Live at Leeds or something. There's also a song that Stone brought in that Ed wrote some great lyrics to [a song] called 'Parachutes.' That's probably one of my favorite pieces of music that Stone has written in a long time. It's got a beautiful melody.

Re: Armor and 2X4
That would make a lot of sense since the main riff in SH is based on a 2x4 power chord (F#m) if I'm not mistaken???Thejambi wrote:I have no source but I seem to remember hearing 2x4 turned to Severed Hand?B wrote:I'll merge this into the Cold Confession/Let It Ride thread after I get an answer, which I assume I can quickly.
Anyone know what became of these two songs? Was either renamed or are they still in unreleased?
PearlJamOnline lists them in the same session as CC and LIR.
Dicembre 2004 Studio X - Seattle, WA
Ed Vedder - vocals, guitar; Stone Gossard - guitar; Mike McCready - guitar; Jeff Ament - bass; Matt Cameron - drum kit, percussion
2x4
Of The Earth
Cold Confession
World Wide Suicide
Marker
Armor
Crapshoot Rapture
Let It Ride
Armor could have been the previous title for Army Reserve
There you go... problem solved. No more demos to dig up.

Re: Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado Outtakes
It's very interesting that it says 'around a dozen' here. I'm speculating, but might that be why there are a dozen placeholders online at the moment? They've said it'll be 'about 12' but haven't decided which ones yet? I find that possibility both encouraging and worrying. Encouraging for obvious reasons, but worrying because surely, there must be some great songs just *begging* to go on the album, and if there aren't...southp wrote:It would be interesting to see more of these preview comments about LB tracks and compare when we actually get the album.dadanotprada wrote:http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1502710/pearl-jam-post-therapy-sex-better-than-ever.jhtml
