Your line of thinking is a bit ridiculous.
You can do C and A. And you are doing C AND blaming the woman for the mess.

I'd say whether she comes forward or not is her decision to make and as her friend I'd support her either way.

Though I'm not sure why I'm responding to such a ridiculously specific hypothetical.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with anything else Trag has been spouting off previously.cutuphalfdead wrote:Though I'm not sure why I'm responding to such a ridiculously specific hypothetical.

It's not ridiculous at all, because it seems to be exactly what has played out repeatedly with Weinstein: People knew, people kept their mouths shut.cutuphalfdead wrote:Though I'm not sure why I'm responding to such a ridiculously specific hypothetical.
Your selection of answer A indicates that you would remain in the silent crowd. I believe that would make you culpable, chud. And by making your raising the alarm contingent on your friend Lupita's level of comfort, you are effectively not taking every reasonable measure to protect other women.

I wish my hero brad pitt would have walked in and punched weinstein in the fucking face. I wish all male abusers would get such treatment. I am not blaming the women. You have been blaming and shaming them for their apparent inaction to stop this.

When did I ever say any of this was a woman's fault? That's an extremely black-and-white view of something that is obviously far more nuanced. And your response to this is becoming more troubling as the conversation continues; it seems to me that you are too comfortable with keeping your mouth shut and placing the onus of responsibility on the women. And I say that without really knowing what the gradient looks like; at what point does silent victim become silent enabler? I don't know the answer!Strat wrote:You have been blaming the women. i have stated that the men are at fault for not speaking up and should "Eat a bag of dicks"tragabigzanda wrote:lol this is exactly how abusers get to continue their behavior, you boneheadStrat wrote:actually

Sexual abuse is not nuanced. It is black and white. You fail to grasp that concept and that is not any of our faults. Your whole disgusting commentary on "oh it wasn't as bad as others" or whatever you said...
You are being obtuse on purpose?
"Attempted abuse"
Lol. Unreal.
Anyway. I give up. I can't believe this conversation has happened. So im going to move on now.

Don't forget, if a woman confides in you she was assaulted but doesn't want to go further because of her own trauma then it's your responsibility to call her a coward and constantly remind her that she has a moral responsibility to put her own wellness aside to seek justice.Strat wrote:"not her first rodeo" " if she would have spoken up she may have stopped...."tragabigzanda wrote:When did I ever say any of this was a woman's fault? You guys are absurd. Sometimes being a good person means making a difficult choice, like the one between protecting your friend's feelings and protecting other women from rape. And I'm not even saying that HAS to be the path taken; just that it may hold moral merit. Your unwillingness to see that, and to equate any sort of questioning with victim blaming makes you look like one-dimensional caricatures of the liberal/feminist men you strive to be.

Your argument would hold a lot more water if we didn't live in a society that consistently punishes women who come forward about sexual assault. Creating a world that punishes them for coming forward, and then putting the moral responsibility on their shoulders to do so anyway, is absurd.

But by running to the police, media, etc..., you would violate the trust Lolita has in you by outing her plight to the world without her consent. And that's wrong. It happened to her, not you. You have absolutely no right telling everyone about what happened to her without her consent.tragabigzanda wrote:cutuphalfdead wrote:I'd say whether she comes forward or not is her decision to make and as her friend I'd support her either way. It's not ridiculous at all, because it seems to be exactly what has played out repeatedly with Weinstein: People knew, people kept their mouths shut.cutuphalfdead wrote:Though I'm not sure why I'm responding to such a ridiculously specific hypothetical.

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
From a legal standpoint, that's not true at all. But from an ethical standpoint, does my friendship with Lupita trump my moral obligation to protect potential victims? I don't know the answer.wease wrote:But by running to the police, media, etc..., you would violate the trust Lolita has in you by outing her plight to the world without her consent. And that's wrong.
