Cool thanks for that.
Take it easy dime, no one is trying to deprive you of your Star Wars joy. I come into this thread once a month, and today I happen to feel like they might be fumbling the new trilogy. You are still free to disrobe and cover your naked body in Mark Hamill tweets and BB-8 cereal. The world will still turn and George Lucas's chin will continue to recede into his neck regardless of my opinions.

Your Buzz for 8 is being killed by JJ directing 9. Don’t let that kill your Buzz.
They’re not fumbling anything it’s in good hands. All of it.

Well it's a combination. There are clips from the trailer for 8 that are having an inverse effect on my excitement. "It's time for the Jedi...to END" just strikes me as a clunky delivery of a corny line. And beyond that, too many of the plot points seem to echo the the OT too closely; Kylo Ren's apparent struggle with the light vs. the dark seems too obviously telegraphed; and -- I swear I'm not trying to get you upset or be disrespectful to Ms. Fisher -- but in the couple shots I've seen of her, A) I am afraid they are going to overly dramatize her role because of her passing (lots of long poignant shots on her even if the narrative doesn't require it) and B) I just think her face looks weird from whatever work/makeup she's had done.

These are all super minor things, and I could very well be wrong on all counts. And I hope that I am, because I want to love the shit out of this movie. But my gut is telling me it will be like a combination of the dark stuff from Empire with the corny stuff from Jedi.
The last Jedi was finished filming and was in the can before Carrie died. Nothing was shot or recut or edited to cash in or exploit her death.
They simply never would or even could do that. We’re feeling a poingancy cos we know she’s dead. You can’t apply the thought oh they did this to exploit an emotion, when we haven’t seen it, and we’re gonna feel stuff to a certain degree anyways, going in knowing that she’s dead. Your post isn’t cynical but the body of it I do expect to see for months on end from the usual suspects trying to shit on the film just for clicks.

Do you know for certain that the bold part is true? You just might; I know you are rabid for every bit of information related to the movie. But just because her scenes were in the can doesn't mean they haven't edited things in post to make her presence feel more monumental. Case in point, the shot in the trailer from behind her, it just feels like an overly dramatic shot saying "Look! It's the back of Carrie's head! Enjoy the three seconds that the camera will linger here, because she's not around to show you the back of her head ever again!"

Sure this is a somewhat cynical take, but I'm nothing if not detail oriented, and in the absence of a larger context, I see a shot like this and think "Wow, they're really trying to milk her death," because I can't understand why such a shot might be important to the structure of the movie.
It probably isn't important to the movie. Just put in the trailer to get attention.

We do know for a fact nothing was reshot. Her performance was important enough nothing needed to be tweaked. I know you guys aren’t as tuned in as I would be to the moment by moment news cycle of it but the film didn’t have a single days reshoots and you probably weren’t aware they’ve been left with a ticking time bomb of how to deal with Leia in episode 9 given Carrie has passed. They’ve already dismissed the writer/director they chose cos his story trying to deal with it wasn’t suitable. everyone involved has been open about her being amazing in 8, 9 would have been her film focused on Leia and presumably her relationship with her son, so they had to rewrite and start again with again. With JJ.

You weren’t crazy about the trailer, that’s fair enough but Pointless saying you have a bad feeling about this film cos you don’t like who they chose to direct the film coming after it. Makes no sense.

I googled "Last Jedi reshoots" and there seem to be references to some reshoots. Or is that just fake sites looking for clicks?

As an aside if they kept her out of all trailers and marketing materials there would be a bigger outcry and accusation that they’ve written/edited her out and diminished the strongest female in the whole trilogy blah blah endless blah.

She had to be in the trailer. It would be fucking weird if she wasn’t. You think they’re trying to manipulate it/monetise it by her being there? Sorry but that’s just nonsense.

All click bait. Main offenders the express, daily telegraph daily mail east coast movie guys and an endless slew of others.

All quoting mike zeroh as their source. A basement dwelling nobody who lies about Star Wars to make money on his YouTube channel.
If you see his name attached or included in the article you know it’s bullshit.

Go to making Star Wars dot net. They’ve covered it from every single angle. They’d know everything about any reshoot. There simply wasn’t any.

My pal just sent me this. And of it doesn’t happen I’ll cry.

How's this for a possible surprise announcement:
Premiere night of TLJ and the lights partly dim so we can restlessly sit through too many advertisements for crap we don't want. Then the lights dim further and the trailers start. Coming soon appears. The Lucasfilm logo is blazoned across the giant screen. We get excited thinking we're getting our first look at Solo. The Lucasfilm logo fades out to be replaced by one word... Kenobi.
Trailer ends. We explode.

It's gonna be actual fun watching dime's real-time message board climaxes when they reveal that Rey is a Palpatine clone or something.

Well I think Rangi sees it a day before me, and I’ll get it a day before you guys. And I have read back on my non spoiler posts after R1 and TFA. Generally didn’t do anything but mourn the later and bush over the former. I predict lots of gushing about TLJ. Unless there’s some truly mind bending twists like you suggest.
