Re: Vs: Official Album thread
Something about this album keeps me from ranking it higher or listening to it more. I think it's because of these songs: Daughter, Dissident, Small Town, and Leash. It's not that I don't like these songs, I just never really wanna listen to them. Maybe I should make a Vs. playlist that omits these 4 and replaces them with other Vs. era songs. Yea, I think I might do that. Shit, what's 4 other Vs. era songs?

I love Leash, Dissident, and Daughter. I'm very bored with Small Town and Indifference.

Indifference, much like IMT for me, is vastly overrated.

I removed Leash, Dissident, and Small Town. Added Alone and HTI. It's a better album.

Just get rid of Small Town and Indifference. The rest of Vs. is pretty damn wonderful.

Re: Vs: Official Album thread
It’s soooooooooooooo boring though. Actually, I think having it played live to close a show with the house lights on ruined that song for me forever. I just kinda hate it now. And it’s incredibly boring.Leatherhead wrote:Indifference is alright by me.PHATJ wrote:Just get rid of Small Town and Indifference. The rest of Vs. is pretty damn wonderful.

I love most of the songs from this album (Blood and Rats are the ones I like the less), but I never really seek it out.
Elderly Woman is great, I love it.

This is the best Pearl Jam record, they never made anything this consistently great again.

I don’t think Vs. is the best, but it’s definitely coming back up the ranks for me. And I think it’s probably generally underrated around these parts.

Re: Vs: Official Album thread
This is the quintessential example of Pearl Jam's "performances so remarkable that they make the writing secondary" gift. They could have covered Maneater during this era and it would have felt like ground-leaving catharsis.*
It's hard to understate the impact of that delivery power. But basically: there are no bad songs on this record. The performances move them beyond any documentable limits. You can believe otherwise; you will be wrong.
Insanely, it recently turned out that the same is true of the performances on the self titled record. Who knew!
* I like Maneater
