I think from a reaction of pure schadenfreude, I'd get more joy seeing his kids tossed in the slammer than the man himself.

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
It brings me back to this. If control is the only thing protecting you from any consequences for criminal behavior, and is also holding off any legal scrutiny over the actions you are taking as an administration, you're trapped between either living inside a terrible waiting game, or being prepared to take the next step. Power is the only protection you have left.McParadigm wrote:But I mean, if this administration took those steps and this congress and justice department accepted and were silent, could they ever afford to turn over power again?
It's not that far a leap from "this investigation into my associates is over" to "these election results are invalid"...and this group has already prepped to call an election false before...just one year ago.
The way the administration handles the next week or so will either relieve or honestly terrify me, re:the future.

So you're saying we need to kill them.McParadigm wrote:It brings me back to this. Because in theory, when change in impossible via non violent, constitutional means, political violence becomes justified and arguably necessary.

I'm more confident in the team conducting the investigation having planned around this risk than I am of trump not being prepared to go there.
Only if a combination of investigation stoppage and congressional acceptance occurs are we in a truly bad place. But if it does, then I think it is a bad place without limits.

My best case scenario is that Burt is still calling this page up a year from now to remind me of how hyperbolic I got about things that never happened.
That would be fine.

Good thing we have a courageous congress willing to do the right thing, party unity be damned.

You should seriously consider stopping it with the drugs. Seriously. Read wtf you just wrote.cutuphalfdead wrote:Because in theory, when change in impossible via non violent, constitutional means, political violence becomes justified and arguably necessary.

Yes, the thing that would make this situation better is violence.cutuphalfdead wrote:Because in theory, when change in impossible via non violent, constitutional means, political violence becomes justified and arguably necessary.

i think trump is enough if a weasel that he would watch his kids go to jail rather than take the hit himself. he will bitch and moan but he will save himself above all

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
I know what I said. I don't believe that political violence is inherently immoral. Under the right circumstances, as rare as they are, it's the right thing to do. Saying otherwise is completely naive and ignores the entirety of human history.Bi_3 wrote:You should seriously consider stopping it with the drugs. Seriously. If self determination is a fundamental human right, and I believe that it is, then you have the right to fight for it when it is explicitly taken away from you.
I'm not saying people should assassinate politicians because of Russia. I'm saying if we reach a point as McP described, where the conservative right decides that the only thing protecting them from annihilation is holding on to power by suspending the republic, then we as Americans have a right to fight to get that republic back.

The comparison between unelected autocratic authority being asserted through violence and without recourse by a foreign power and the situation with Trump is beyond ridiculous and you both know that.cutuphalfdead wrote:exactlyMcParadigm wrote:America was very peacefully born.

You're right, that's why neither of us compared it to the current situation with Trump.Bi_3 wrote:The comparison between unelected autocratic authority being asserted through violence and without recourse by a foreign power and the situation with Trump is beyond ridiculous and you both know that.cutuphalfdead wrote:exactlyMcParadigm wrote:America was very peacefully born.

If American goes to war with itself, maybe the First Americans can finally get a little something back.Bi_3 wrote:The comparison between unelected autocratic authority being asserted through violence and without recourse by a foreign power and the situation with Trump is beyond ridiculous and you both know that.cutuphalfdead wrote:exactlyMcParadigm wrote:America was very peacefully born.

I'm not necessarily agreeing that violence will be the best response. Frankly, I can't see that it would result in anything but misery. The era of survivable civil war is over.cutuphalfdead wrote:exactlyMcParadigm wrote:America was very peacefully born.

Trey Gowdy of all people
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said Sunday that Republicans should curb their criticisms of the investigation into Russian election meddling and give special counsel Robert Mueller "a chance to do his job."
"I would encourage my Republican friends, give the guy a chance to do his job. The result will be known by the facts, by what he uncovers," Gowdy, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said on "Fox News Sunday."

Well sure, reasonable prospect of success is part of moral justification.McParadigm wrote:I'm not necessarily agreeing that violence will be the best response.
