again, I would prefer to listen to Backspacer to those bands. But there are precious few albums out there that I really like listening to from start to finish. So for pretty much all those albums there will be some songs that are really great, but if I was going to listen to something from start to finish I'd choose backspacer (over half of PJ's output too).

That being said, I almost feel that Backspacer is an objectively shitty album. I've said that about so few albums in my time...and then Stip likes that record more than No Code which is in my top ten records of all time (at worst!).

I always got the impression that Duritz wanted to be one of those Bob Dylan, "I'm not going to sing anything live the same way I sing it on the record"-type performers, but he just had no gift for it. He always just sounded like he was forgetting how his own songs went.
