Doesn't taking risks, by definition, mean they won't be appealing to the masses? Isn't that exactly the thing people criticize The Force Awakens about the most? Playing it safe and "remaking" A New Hope, and taking risks can't both be appealing to the masses, right?

Weve been saying it forever that it could well be too different and piss us all off in a different way and the cast and directors seem to be indicating as much. Or at least that it’s unexpected and we will need to adjust expectations to match.
One thing is abundantly clear and I’m delighted. It’s clearly no remake of empire. Glad we can shoot that nonsense in the head before we’ve even seen it.

Yep. But I'm sure there will be plenty of e-ding-dongs around after the movie drops to tell us how it IS a remake of Empire, regardless of what happens in it.

Wish I could share some of mine with you. If that tv spot didn’t do it...I don’t know what can.
Speaking of. I wanna stop watching any torture trailers and teasers. Wish I could. So much revealed in this latest.

I got exited with the first teaser back in april.
These days is more of a ¨oh yeah this movie is coming¨ but i was more into It or BR2049 than this thing.

Yknow that new space coating for fabric that you can spray it on clothes or shoes and throw anything like oil or ketchup or any kind of liquid, and it just totally rolls off ?
That’s me and blade runner. The eye at the start of the film? Doesn’t want me watching. And I don’t want to watch the film. And I have tried a few times. Just not for me. My loss probably.

True. At least it will be easy for this movie to top TFA.E.H. Ruddock wrote:I don't even know what I was trying to say. Doesn't taking risks, by definition, mean they won't be appealing to the masses? Isn't that exactly the thing people criticize The Force Awakens about the most? Playing it safe and "remaking" A New Hope, and taking risks can't both be appealing to the masses, right?

You should probably watch TFA again before seeing Last Jedi.

I think Rian has probably taken a lot of risks and recent comments from JJ suggest he’s going to as well in episode 9. It’s all good.

A few things I've seen and heard in and around the internets... (I'll tag them in case folks don't want to look but it's nothing concrete, just speculation and observations and guesswork)
- Spoiler: show
