Listen, I'm with you on that. I dislike "Lightning Bolt" and I dislike "The Fixer". But your reasoning was fallacious and weird.
On the contrary it was quite simple. Being good (for a song) is a shared opinion of a majority of people. The less people are of the opinion that a song is good, the more chance there is that it's actually not good. Amiwrong?
Yes, completely wrong. It's already a mistake to ascertain that there is such a thing as "good music" and "bad music" on any sort of objective level, but if on top of that you state that the measure of quality is popularity then there's no sense in us continuing this conversation because you're too far gone.

Why would he have to? He's following your postulate as stated. "Being good (for a song) is a shared opinion of a majority of people".

Because segmentation helps avoid the errors in such estimations

Maybe actually think your position through and come back to us when you've figured it out.

Results for LB the song so far: 50% of people who participated in the poll either like it or love it, 35% think it's just OK, while 15% actually have a negative opinion of it. I think we should wait it out for the studio version to see how that shifts the polls, if at all. Too much doom and gloom here if I may say so. MYM has overwhelmingly positive reviews here. Around 78% of people either like or love it. Based on this, I would think people would be a bit more optimistic about the album, if anything.

There really is no such thing as good or bad music as it is a matter of opinion. I may love a song you think is crap or the other way around, that doesn't make the song bad or good. I hate country music but I have an appreciation for it as an art. Just cause I dont like it doesn't mean its bad.

Maybe the people voting aren't the same people commenting on the threads.

Good point. Disappointed people tend to be more vocal on threads.

Well, FD has been the worst reviewed of the tracks so far. I personally don't hate it, nor do I love it. It's just a song that I think is pretty and nothing more. There are quite a few PJ ballads post Vitalogy which fall into this category for me, so it's not a deal breaker at all. It hasn't put my expectations down. I expect it to rise or fall in the studio though.

The polls for FD so far: 26% of people either like it or love it, 32% think it's just ok and 42% dislike it. Far more polarising.

At this point just "Ok" is probably not a positive feeling for alot of people here.

If the trend continues, this should be enough to draw at least some conclusion, no?
Good grief.

Even if there was any legitimacy to this asinine reasoning, you do realize that just because someone watched a video on YouTube doesn't mean they necessarily liked it, right? I would suspect most people on this board have watched the "Fixer" video, and probably 98% thought it was awful.

I just...ugh.
