I was at that show. The feeling on the night was it’s the first time they’d played Texas in a good few years (Think the Last was 98?) and they’d vocally and visibly picked a fight with a Bush and it was his state.

Open up with the hitter to get everyone on side.

Listen for the backstage passes story that runs throughout the gig. It’s a cheap payoff /dig at bush by ed but it works :)
I was there, too. Alive was shocking as an opener...

They did play Dallas in 2000, btw. In fact it wasn't until after the 2003 Dallas show that they quit playing there... until ten years later. Dallas actually has always had great, very supportive crowds, even through the political ranting and Bushleaguing. Not sure why they stayed away for a decade.

Its not JUST the openers, its the whole opening run of songs. In 2000 you can bet you'll hear like 3 of Breakerfall, Grievance, Corduroy, Animal in those first 4-5 songs
I know it was great. Breakerfall in the two hole is one of my favorite things about the 2000 tour.
My feeling in 2000 was that they ripped through those run of songs so fast they didn't have the chance to really show their power. Seeing songs like Animal and Grievance all over the setlist in 2003 made them so much better.
Yup yup yup

I'm repeating myself, but it's the tightest show I've seen sans SF III. Ed's voice suffered from Boston III, but the band felt propelled by it. Stone, Jeff and Matt were so locked in.

They really did nice with openers on this tour, it's always something different, unlike 2000.

This one opens with Can't Keep. Not my favorite but interesting and each show feels different

Wow Can't Keep -> Grievance.

I just love how each show has such variety!!

Though Eddie sounds weirdly tired already

What strikes me the most is that each song sounds unique, whereas if this was 2000 each song would sound the same

I mean a Matt Cameron Even Flow is like 1% of a Dave A Even Flow.

But for a Matt C Even Flow this is surprisingly nice

I didn’t have my hard drive handy so I listened to this on Apple Music. The first half dozen songs have scratched-CD glitches through them - unbelievable! PJ hand over your quality control and archiving duties to me now

The midwest shows were absolutely fantastic. Iowa, Fargo, Alpine Valley...

I just listened to it, I don't see how it's any better than the numerous other versions. I think it's on par with a lot of other good versions of the song, but I don't know if it's the best ever version with MC. I've always been partial to Milan, Italy from 2000. I'm sure there are many many other version equally as good to both. The Boise, ID one from 2000 is also really good.

St. Louis, MO from 2003 has a nice Even Flow and overall is a great show.

The Houston one? It just seemed a little crisper and groovier than normal where they usually just barrel through it.

The Even Flow voted the best of all time for the Green Habit compilation was a 2003 version (Uniondale 2003-04-30), which I always found surprising.
