Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado Outtakes

I'm starting to think that these were worked on for a release (LD2, Lightning Bolt, something else) .

My sources told me these are actually Lightning Bolt tracks.

Foil Hat Moment....

Listened to the Avocado Sampler today and I have an observation concerning CC/Let it Ride.

All of the Avocado rough mixes had no fade or any of the endings cleaned up.
Secondly the production (mixing, mastering, whatever) sound drastically different than both the Sampler and the final Avocado Album

I'm starting to think that these were worked on for a release (LD2, Lightning Bolt, something else) .

I think there were several sessions involved in the making of S/T, starting in 04 and continuing throughout the following year. It's possible that these are from one of the earlier sessions than the mixes that eventually became the Avocado record. It would make sense, considering these sound closer to Riot Act than what eventually ended up on the record.

That could very well be true also. I just couldn't fathom working with these guys going from such a rich full sound to what S/T ended up sounding like.

From what we know, World Wide Suicide, Marker in the Sand and an early version of Comatose were recorded in the same session as these songs. Whatever issues arose with the end product, they don't appear to have been present at the tracking stage.

I think someone from there has posted here . My guess is they know an engineer at one of the studios. I don't remember them having much of a scoop since S/T though.

To be honest, I always thought most of it was fabrications or baseless speculation - but now these two tracks have surfaced, I guess they must have had inside information at some stage. Unless verified, however, I'd still take most of it with a grain of salt.

So CC has a very Very familiar (inside job) vocal melody. It still a pretty good song. Let It Ride just never takes flight. It never goes anywhere and sounds like its missing something. Am I being to critical?

Eveybody that is underwhelmed or doesn't think really highly of cc you have to get headphones on this or play it at really high volume on a good system. When I click on the link and listen through the computer half of the music is missing. This song is freaking me out . I am going to donate something to charity to pay for this. Too critical? No, not necessarily. I think what has some of us sort of in love with these songs may not be the songs themselves (though I like them both a lot), but rather the general sound/approach/x-factor that these songs have, or at least flirt with, granting what we have aren't officially sanctioned final products.

Speaking only for myself, that x-factor is something that's been absent since Riot Act, and I miss it. A lot.

The first musical breakdown in cc after the cold confession lyric does call for something from Mike , but guitar tone and attack would be so critical here no wah either something dry clean with lots of decay then feed back. Ed could beat a c minor to death in there a couple of times.
