They won't block it, at first, they will throttle it.

I just wonder if they even thought about the number of people who work from home. For example, let's say that the internet is getting throttled on a day some people (we're at about 60% work-at-home right now) are working from home and stuff starts going super slow. Bad things will start to happen.

I think it's going to be more like they're doing with mobile networks. Is it Sprint that doesn't charge you data for watching Netflix? "Like Hi Def? Our wi-fi has the fastest Hulu speeds!" I'm not sure of all the horrible ways we'll get fucked by this, but that's day 1.

The safest assumption is that we will get what other countries without neutrality laws get: internet service that's split into packages. You pay for a base service that's severely neutered, and then purchase additional access types for yet more money, like access to streaming video, online shopping, social media, or music.

That's the most likely, least destructive version of how it could go.

More about the least alarming version of repealed neutrality:

http://www.businessinsider.com/net-neut ... cc-2017-11
Really into messaging? Then pay an additional €4.99 ($5.86 or £4.43) a month and get more data for apps like WhatsApp, Skype, and FaceTime. Prefer social networks like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Messenger, and so on? That'll be another €4.99 a month. Online games? €4.99.

Video apps like Netflix and YouTube are available as another add-on, while music (Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play Music, etc.) is another, as is email and cloud (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, iCloud, etc.).

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California originally shared the Meo example on Twitter in October.

"In Portugal, with no net neutrality, internet providers are starting to split the net into packages," he wrote. "A huge advantage for entrenched companies, but it totally ices out startups trying to get in front of people which stifles innovation. This is what's at stake, and that's why we have to save net neutrality."

Technically, Portugal is bound by the European Union's net-neutrality rules, but loopholes allow certain kinds of pricing schemes like the one outlined above.

Yonatan Zunger, a former Google employee, recently retweeted Khanna's tweet, adding: "This isn't even the worst part of ending net neutrality. The worst part happens when ISPs say 'we don't like this site's politics,' or 'this site competes with us,' and block or throttle it."

That's driving me crazy.

When your friends are going on record saying "sure it's true, but it's fine...," and cops are saying "yeah, it was my job to keep him away from events with cheerleaders," and the mall says "eh he had to go," it's distortive for the media to continue to talk up the denial in every piece about the issue.

I know I post a lot of tweet links here lately, and have shared DJT's mania a number of times, but I increasingly wish Donald Trump tweets were left out of N&D.

These tweets are ugly, cruel, and revealing of a character that should appeal to no one...but they also mean nothing. They result in nothing. They are side stories...I feel that's being generous...and yet they get at least as much attention as the actual policy decisions that the same character traits make possible.

In other words, the policy is both exponentially more important than and also equally capable of revealing personality traits as the tweets.
