Re: Queenie Wahine's Papaya - An Elvis Presley thread
Other than the hits i just cant get into Elvis. I mean, i totally get it and understand his talent and mark on the world but I just dont love it.
The early hits are fantastic. The latter overblown Vegas shit is some times awful to listen to.
I just heard him do a cover of Johnny B. Goode on Elvis radio and it was painful.
Help me?

It may not be up your alley, but try some of his early gospel stuff. You can get a feel for his passion for music with that stuff.Strat wrote:Other than the hits i just cant get into Elvis. I mean, i totally get it and understand his talent and mark on the world but I just dont love it.

Also, if you are ever in a bigger city when there is an Elvis impersonation contest going on, do not miss it. There used to be an annual one in Seattle, and it was one of the most fun nights of the year. Quite the party. And surprisingly always a lot of hot people in their 20's and 30's there.

And some of his Christmas songs are legit among the best music I've ever heard. "Blue Christmas" is mindblowing.

Not music related, but one of my favorite things in the world is people dressing up as Elvis at football games for no discernible reason.

You and I were meant to be related, I think. I could be like your older brother or something.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Elvis is great. What a goddamn voice.

Re: Queenie Wahine's Papaya - An Elvis Presley thread
I've always found the evolution of music interesting, and especially rock music. There is both what came before the emergence of rock n'roll, and what came after. Elvis may not have been the first rock artist, but he was so close to the beginning, that it's hard to tell the difference. Rock around the clock by Bill Haley was released on the 20th of May 1954. Elvis first started recording in August 1953. By 1956 he became the enduring biggest star of rock n'roll to emerge from the 1950s, and one of the biggest of all time. Listened to all his top ten hits yesterday. He had an amazing voice and a presence that few could match.
