Backspacer: Official Album Thread

I *like* aspects of every song on this album except for Supersonic. The lyrics on that one ruin it, because they're not just bad in places, the entire concept and theme of the song is terrible. Every other song is passable and enjoyable, just hampered by various things. No song goes from good to great, because something lets it down. The only song I think they got nearly 100% right is Johnny Guitar.

The bridge in Supersonic is the only enjoyable thing on Backspacer......except maybe Got Some.

While I won't take away from your dislike of Backspacer, that's heaping far too much praise on the Supersonic bridge. It's essentially a generic funk rock riff with a generic guitar solo over generic half-step drumming.

The first 4 tracks are very good, and new. They have this fresh and unique sound...PJ never had songs like those 4.
JB is good, ATW is ok, UK is ok...Supersonic is a b side. A very lazy one.
SOS...i just love that one...FON..its weird, its a good song that i dont need to hear it...and The End is good too.

supersonic is the only dud on this record for me. No song gets it all 100% right (Force of Nature comes closest) but only the presence of supersonic and the absence of any 5 star songs keeps this from dethroning vs. in the number 3 spot. Such an enjoyable listen from start to finish

Honestly, Amongst the Waves grabbed hold of me on first listen and has never let me go. I actually really dig that song. A lot. A lot lot.

But there's nothing dynamic or particularly grabby about FoN to these old ears. But I'm fine no matter what they play live. If this is something folks are dying to hear, then I hope they play if more for those folks.

FON and SOS are two songs they should play often. And put to rest ATW and UK...and got some.

The music is on the mediocre side but i think the lyrics are outstanding.
