The new pilot is alright, but he was talked about on the ground when he arrived like we already knew who he was, which was a bit silly. They could have put him in a Y wing
So basically, Johnson and May spent Trump's presidency fighting each other over how best to sell the NHS to Trump.

stip wrote:Watched this yesterday in preparation for TLJ. I still love it, and have it on par with the OT (probably would rank it third overall - but each of the non prequels (including Rogue One) has moments that are the best in the franchise. There isn't a ton of daylight between 1 and 5. Enduring strengths are the character work (fantastic performances all around, especially from Rey and Ren), the fun of seeing Han back in action, and the kinetic feel to the fights. The moment where Rey gets her lightsaber remains a series highlight. It will be interesting to see how this movie changes in the wake of Last Jedi, as it officially turns into Act I of a larger story.
Yeah it still sits comfortably among the ot for me too.
Also Excited to see how TLJ reframes it

While this was better than The Last Jedi, I feel the new film only weakens TFA, by tossing out so many of its ideas and characters. Changing the humour and the style. It is as if the directors had completely oppositive views on how to handle the franchise.

But JJ directing 9 will swing it back around to that style but it’ll have to be an evolution of it so that can only be a good thing.

That is something I am very interested in seeing how JJ will pull off.dimejinky99 wrote:But JJ directing 9 will swing it back around to that style but it’ll have to be an evolution of it so that can only be a good thing.

JJ has a mountain of a task in front of him no matter what way you cut it up.
Even without Carries death and having to resolve that, there’s a lot of impossible work here to do.

I think we need new spoiler rules, stip. Upon release, there should be no expectation of not seeing spoilers in these threads. Spoiler tags do not make for aesthetically-pleasing thread reading.

How about we stop using spoilers after the opening weekend? Or, we just stop using them now strictly in TLJ thread, since 90% of the posts are spoilers.Ensign9 wrote:I think we need new spoiler rules, stip. I've posted a similar question in TLJ thread for any feedback.

We've been switching back and forth in the TLJ thread. No one should go in there if they don't want spoilers.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
Has anyone changed opinion about TFA after TLJ was released? I always hated Starkiller Base, and have some other issues with the movie. I look forward to seeing it again though, and now with extra information about what is going to happen. I can also see people being more negative towards it, as a lot of what it built up was torn down.

I haven’t watched TFA since TLJ. I’m almost afraid to. Rians done away with so much from it.
I can’t make peace with Luke just throwin the saber over his shoulder.
It’s literally pissing all over the most awesome scene in TFA.

I haven't changed my opinion about TFA after TLJ, no. But I do wonder if TFA will end up being the movie I prefer in the long run. I'm not sure yet. I need a lot more time with TLJ. TLJ is so bold and strange, it's hard to tell how it will age. Right now, immediately, after one viewing, I like TLJ more.

It does change that scene dramatically. Probably my favorite scene from TFA.dimejinky99 wrote:Anders wrote:Has anyone changed opinion about TFA after TLJ was released? They could have done anything else and made the same point but a dramatic moment rather than play it for comedy.
The biggest misstep in the entire film for me. It was literally a fuck you to JJ and the entire audience.
And a message that this literally isn’t going to go the way you think.
Would have been infinitely more impactiful had they played it seriously rather than comedically.

I absolutely love that he just chucked the saber. Comedy aside, I thought it was fantastic.
