Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

We (fans) asked/hoped that TLJ would deviate from typical Star Wars, and it did in someways, which was great. I was one who complained that TFA was too familiar, so I don't feel right to heavily criticize TLJ, as we got what we asked for and largely it was great.

I would honestly change the poll here to grades:

I'd probably give it a B or B+, but I need to see it a few more times.

yeah i'm thinking a lot of folks won't like XIII until after IX. gotta see how the choices made this time all pay off next time. hopefully JJ goes with it instead of undoing it all, dooming this intriguing entry into the canon.

Im really worried about JJ now but i cant place my finger on why.

I enjoy most of his storytelling and he had a knack for doing things a little different with his story telling. TFA was obvously safe, though i enjoyed it immensely.

I just wish Rian could finish his vision. Perhaps he will help lead and provide input on Episode 9?

You just answered your own question about JJ taking over again. You don't think he's capable of seeing what this trilogy has now become through. I share your concerns.

Given what's happening in LA right now, I wouldn't be surprised if JJ mistreated women and is forced to leave this project, opening the door for Johnson. But Johnson probably mistreats(ed) women, too.

I loved Holdo. God. At first she annoyed me and I was worried she would be the spy who was helping the First ORder track them. I felt that would be obvious and a weak story to sell us.

The way the Poe story line plays off Holdo was just fantastic when she ultimately turns into a hero.

Man, does "The Last Jedi" deliver. Rian Johnson did all the things I've never dared wish for in a Star Wars movie: he flipped every sacred cow in the franchise upside down. From Luke cavalierly chucking his own lightsaber over his shoulder after Rey hands it to him, to her parents being absolute nobodies with no connection to the Skywalker family, the movie took every expectation I had and said, "Nah, how about we do this amazing thing instead?"

Everyone has something to do in this movie, and characters actually learn something about themselves, like what they're willing to do to win the war.

Kylo Ren is absolutely the best villain in Star Wars history (Vader had simple motivations and, while terrifying, could be considered one note -- FIGHT ME INTERNET), and Adam Driver brings a depth and complexity to a role that could have ended up incredibly Anakin-like.

And that Snoke throne room scene with Rey, y'all! Did you see that shit?

More than everything else I loved about "The Last Jedi," there's one simple concept that rang true: the Force is for everyone. I can't wait to see where Star Wars goes now that it's free of so many of its shackles.

we have to assume so, but it had been said previously that the ashes he smashes his helmet into in TFA are the ashes of the students he killed at the academy...the only thing is, will JJ bring the KOR back in 9? and would it not be weird then that theyre not in 8?

the KOR attack on ahch to was definitely among the cut scenes..there's footage of them filming those scenes on the MSWsite..im thinking hell bring them back..it would be a cool way to have kylo need his henchmen to help him run the first order
