Yeah, the stuff with Del Toro's character was a little juvenile. No shit people profit from war.VinylGuy wrote:The political subtext was awful. I really don't understand why people are so opposed to this. It's completely stupid to me. After what the character went through in this film? I mean, I get "how" they won't do that. But it's absurd. The story clearly wants her to continue. They should recast the part at serve the character.spike wrote:recast princess leia? come on, dude.durdencommatyler wrote:He'll have to be if JJ really elects to kill Leia in the opening crawl.Strat wrote:God. Also TFA "Who talks first, you talk first? i talk first?"
Poe is gonna be huge in Episode 9. I believe it.
I think that's a huge mistake. I really want them to recast and proceed when Leia being the total badass they set up I this film.
But I really don't think that'll happen.

There’s no way they’d ever recast. I could see them going the CGI route, though.

They already said they wouldn't do CGI. So that leaves either off-screen death or continuing the story they way they should. They'll absolutely do off-screen death. And Ep 9 will be all the worse for it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:There’s no way they’d ever recast. I could see them going the CGI route, though.

I think Leia can be a character in the next film but never actually on screen. I'd be up for that. She can still be giving orders or a part of the resistance while she's off doing...something?

No it wont. This story isn't about Leia, luke, or Han.durdencommatyler wrote:They already said they wouldn't do CGI. I mean... sure? But how unsatisfying. Given what we learn about Leia in this movie, I feel like anything other than letting her continue on as a character is a cheat and unsatisfying. Again, I'm 100% prepared for them to do just this. But it's a shame. Leia deserves better. Especially given what she was able to do in TLJ.Strat wrote:I think Leia can be a character in the next film but never actually on screen. I'd be up for that. I'm positive the opening line of the Ep 9 crawl will be something about The Resistance in the wake of Leia's Shocking Death.

I think she needs to die, as both a recasting or being off screen the whole movie wouldn't work. But I would like to see her in the beginning of the movie. Don't know how. Perhaps they have a unused scene from TLJ they could work in and around. Like her ship blowing up at the start of the movie.

What did she really do though? I don't view her as this massive hero in the episode. She was still a strong leader (and maybe im blanking on some things!) but Holdo made the ultimate sacrifice, she lead while Leai was out, and by the end of the movie she directed the remaining resistance fighters to follow Poe.durdencommatyler wrote:I mean... sure? LEIA LITERALLY USED THE FORCE TO OVERCOME DEATHStrat wrote:No it wont. This story isn't about Leia, luke, or Han.durdencommatyler wrote:They already said they wouldn't do CGI. Not to become one with the Force. Not to become a fucking ghost. But to overcome the infinite cold and pressure of fucking space to come back to life.
I don't understand how you just go, "Welp, never mind. She dead" in the next movie. The character is obviously meant to do much, much more. She's not done. And maybe the whole thing isn't "about Leia" but letting the character die just because the actress unfortunately passed is idiotic. I get that people love Carrie. But it'd disrespectful to Carrie and Leia and to the legacy of both to just pretend like the things we learned about her in TLJ don't matter an now she's just...gone.
That's what's gonna happen. I get it. I'm prepared for it. But it's criminal. It's such a shame.
