You may have missed some huge information in this movie, then. I think maybe you should watch it again.Strat wrote:What did she really do though? I don't view her as this massive hero in the episode. She was still a strong leader (and maybe im blanking on some things!) but Holdo made the ultimate sacrifice, she lead while Leai was out, and by the end of the movie she directed the remaining resistance fighters to follow Poe.durdencommatyler wrote:I mean... sure? But how unsatisfying. Given what we learn about Leia in this movie, I feel like anything other than letting her continue on as a character is a cheat and unsatisfying. Again, I'm 100% prepared for them to do just this. But it's a shame. Leia deserves better. Especially given what she was able to do in TLJ.Strat wrote:I think Leia can be a character in the next film but never actually on screen. I'd be up for that. She can still be giving orders or a part of the resistance while she's off doing...something?
I'm positive the opening line of the Ep 9 crawl will be something about The Resistance in the wake of Leia's Shocking Death.

Not to become one with the Force. Not to become a fucking ghost. But to overcome the infinite cold and pressure of fucking space to come back to life.
I don't understand how you just go, "Welp, never mind. She dead" in the next movie. The character is obviously meant to do much, much more. She's not done. And maybe the whole thing isn't "about Leia" but letting the character die just because the actress unfortunately passed is idiotic. I get that people love Carrie. But it'd disrespectful to Carrie and Leia and to the legacy of both to just pretend like the things we learned about her in TLJ don't matter an now she's just...gone.
That's what's gonna happen. I get it. I'm prepared for it. But it's criminal. It's such a shame.
Yes, she did and that was fantastic. But as far as this story is concerned and moving it forward...i dont think she is necessary.
*shrugs*
IT sucks that she died, but i dont think Episode 9 or story is going to suffer because of it.

And yes - I am disappointed we wont get to see what was next for Leia as it was understood that her role in 9 would be grand. I just disagree with you that the story will suffer because of it. I dont believe that.

We really need her, the story needs her. She was amazing in this movie. But out of respect for Carrie, a recasting would be wrong.

This character is necessary. Everyone has said she would be instrumental to the next chapter. She is pivotal. She was amazing and her story needs to continue. Oh wait, the actress can't play the part? ...
She's cool and all but not super necessary.

Okay, lets talk about who could replace Fisher to play princess leia. Seriously! Who'd be good for that ?

100% fine with it. I'm sure you can find posts to that effect from back when it was announced. Have to write around it. A real shame. But there are other options to go with. All focus will be on the new cast now.

None of these old guard are necessary for this trilogy at all. They have been nothing but a burden creatively.

Hey guys.
So. Star Wars eh?
Watching it again it gets better and better.
This could work it’s way up the ranks lads. But let’s let it marinate before we say anything we come to regret.
Has anyone told LV there is definitely a 4K release coming for this?

Annette Bening would be my first choice. I'd actually love Laura Dern to have done it, but that can't happen now. How about Meryl Streep who basically played Carrie in Postcards from the Edge? There are a ton of options.Strat wrote:Okay, lets talk about who could replace Fisher to play princess leia. Seriously! Who'd be good for that ?
I think if you have Kathleen Kennedy and Billy Lorde and JJ Abrams do a presser/announcement and tell fans that this sucks but we need to embrace this because it's best for the story and what Carrie would have wanted and I think people will jump on board pretty quickly.

Eh? I mean, these actors made the characters who they are. You dont have princess leia without that sas, wit, and charm that Carrie Fisher brought. You dont have Han solo without Harrison Ford being a real life han solo and indiana jones.durdencommatyler wrote:100% fine with it. Those characters were created to an extent and influenced and grown by the actors, but i can see how another actor could move the character forward or continue on.
