If you look at the build up in TFA, and the twist in TLJ, it just doesn't make sense. They could have made her nobody to begin with, and no one would have cared in a negative way, only positive. Obi-Wan was a nobody, Luke was a nobody in the first movie.
They did make her nobody, though. It was fan reaction and internet speculation that turned Rey into "someone." We did that. There's nothing in the film that points to her being a descendant of a known character.
the same is true of Snoke. The Emperor had zero backstory in the OT, and didn't need it. Neither did Snoke, as both are supporting characters that represent a wall our main protagonist/antagonist pairings need to bounce off of. Attention paid to that backstory (in this movie) draws focus from our principle characters.

There will be some canon exploration later, when you can make it its own thing.
Yup. The Snoke stuff was always absurd. He never needed to be anyone either.
I think that is absurd. The leader of the galaxy is no one, with no story, and dies without any fight. Makes the plot paper thin.
I meant he didn't need to be Tarkin or Mace Windu or Darth Plagueis. That's what I meant by he never needed to be anyone. He never needed to be a previous established or known character. Snoke could just be Snoke. And that's the way it should have been. I'm glad that's the way it was.

He is someone in the sense that you mean it.

Meanwhile, Luke is so powerful in the Force that not only can he create a Force bridge, he can project himself across the galaxy to another place and appear as a real person. That's absolutely amazing. People wanted Luke to be the most powerful Jedi we've ever seen. And we got exactly that. Perhaps not in the way any of us imagined or expected. But it happened. People can be upset at Rey having seemingly "advanced" power all they want. But Luke is still far more powerful. So was Snoke, to that end.

Tell me, based off the the OT and the OT only, who was the emperor, what was his story, and how did he die?

You can give her closure and peace without her parents being anyone special.

They could be just junk traders and she was abandoned.

If you don’t give her that closure she’s always going to be in pain

And that’s a path to the dark side.

They’ll close it and let her know who her parents were. They’ll be random nobody’s.

It’ll be fine.

Allow me to answer. No one, with no story, and he dies without any fight while taunting our heroes.

While the prequels helped a lot in that sense. there really is no comparison between Darth Sidious and Snoke, even if based only on the OT and the sequels. He is built up greatly in the OT. "The emperor will not be so forgiving." And he has a lot of great scenes.

Hopefully she dies in episode nine while fighting Kylo. That would be shocking.

Did you notice that Snoke's hand remains on his thrown after he's cut in half? Great nod to someone always losing a hand in these stupid space operas.

I give up.

I am serious. I am struggling to think how a cardboard happy ending with Finn, Poe and Rey all alive and happy will be a satisfying end to this saga.

I actually like the Luke storyline; it was my favorite plot of the film. I didn't necessarily like his projection in the final act but can live with it.
But Leia's surviving being hurled into space?

The Leia thing is going to be the hardest thing for me to come to grips with over time. Especially if they kill her off in the crawl of Ep 9.

Because he closed himself off to the Force for so long, this is him opening himself back up to it.

Huh, that's interesting.

What was up with Snoke bouncing lightning off the floor at the beginning of the throne room scene?

And was the music from the trailers ever in the film? That was such a good march. I was so busy watching that I didn't hear it.
Leatherhead wrote:So I assume Rey will construct a lightsaber in 9? I really hope we get more lightsaber action.
Using the crystal from Luke's/Anakin's that she has at the end.

What will the rebels do now?

How will Luke deal with knowing his father is Darth Vader?

Will they find Han Solo?
For Ep. 9:

What will the resistance do now?

How will Rey deal with the knowledge of her parents, and is it even true?

Will Rey become an ass kicking Jedi without a master?

Will we ever find out who Snoke was?

Will DJ return?
So...what he called DJ because he said Don't Join?

Also I figured that maybe he 'stole' his own ship to sell the whole I can steal/hack anything and then sold them out. And how did he know about the cloaked ships? For that matter, how did Finn and Rose know to tell him? It was decided after they got off the ship so...uh? Maybe I missed something.

Same. A real bummer. The scene itself was a little out there and didn't really fit, but it did set up some major things for the Leia character.

Totally. It's the single biggest Force power thing we've ever seen on screen in a Star Wars film. And that's saying something when it's in the same movie where a bad guy creates a Force bridge between two other characters without their knowing about it AND Luke Skywalker uses the Force to project himself across the galaxy and interact with dozens of people and even spar a bit.

The whole theory/idea of Force ghosts and what Darth Plagueous was trying to achieve, all of that stems from the idea that you can not overcome death. Yoda, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Anakin all eventually learn to become one with the Force. And that took millennia to figure out. But none of them were able to overcome death. To beat death and to live. But fucking Leia did it! That's incredible.

Now, maybe I'm over reacting. Maybe we need to suspend disbelief and understand that real world physics don't necessarily apply to Star Wars. Maybe Leia didn't die. Maybe she used the Force to pull herself back to the ship before she suffocated and/or froze to death in the vast, oxygen-less, void of space. After a major explosion. That at least knocked her unconscious. If that's the case, then fine.

But if what we saw was Leia die and instead of becoming one with the Force, the Force brought her back to life... that's some major shit. You can't just leave that hanging out there like that.
