YES. That scene was one of many hand-holdings that threw me. It doesn't matter if it's salt or Hoth 2.0 (seriously, it's more like Hoth 1.5 with trench warfare, a base in the wall, AT-ATs [there was one!] and rebel ships), they didn't need that scene.

Has Luke physically absorbed all the barrage of fire in the face off against the walkers? We see him hold Leias hand and kiss her. Is this what actually damages him beyond healing?
I was wondering how he transported the gold dice in a hologram but then they disappear too when he dies.

I just assumed he came to his senses, and came to help out. But cleaned himself up first. I wondered how he got into the base if the door was the only way in/out.
I wasn't 100% sure what was going on but I knew something was up. I was like, "how did he even get there?" Then, "Oh, that x-wing under water." Then I was all, "but wait, how did he get it?" Then, "they'll probably explain that." Then, "why is he young? Something's up." By the time the First Order didn't obliterate him, I figured it was a Force projection.
You were ahead of me then. I took the bait hook, line and sinker. I WAS wondering why he took the time to get a haircut and color his beard, but Force projection never entered my mind.

I really like how this movie gave us so many more ways the Force can be used.
When he first entered the room and was talking to Leia i was unsure if it was really happening or if it was just a vision. When the scene carried on and Luke appeared younger and had cleaned up a bit....My mind went straight to "well he cut his hair and engaged with the force and decided to join the battle". I never once thought it was a projection from Ach-to. Even when he brushed the fire power off his shoulder. At that point i was still on board with him actually being there and it was all due to his incredible Jedi Power.

At first it was a let down when we found out it was just a projection. Then i came around to it and I believe this was the absolute best way for Luke to rejoin the fight and leave this world. Amazing.
The absolute biggest clue and ultimately the thing that I couldn't get past was that he was holding the old lightsaber. The one we JUST saw broken in two and not his green saber. The second I saw that on his belt it was over.
You know, I noticed that but didn't put it together. It struck me as odd but I couldn't place why. Huh.

The shot Just before luke is folding his robes we see the necklace with the red kyber crystal hanging against the wall.
What do you mean by "the" red kyber crystal?

Well apparently the story is that’s part of Vader’s kyber. Kylo might have the rest and it’s broken and it’s why his blade is all fucked up.

We’re gonna get more about it in the next wave of books it seems. MSW to their credit reported on this way way back. Kinda glad the crystals don’t get brought into TLJ at all.

But what happened to Luke’s green saber? How come Ben has his own saber (in the hut when Luke is creeping on him) all that were gonna get in the books I reckon
Totally blanking, so forgive me, but wasn't Lukes Green saber in play during the flashbacks and the projection battle scene? I honestly don't remember.
Probably in the X-Wing.

durdencommatyler wrote:I wonder why Luke hasn't bled it white yet. If that's really Vader's crystal.

We don’t see his own green blade in the film in real time either

So I’m thinking white is off the table since he’s closed himself off from the force and is no longer a Jedi.

It’s probably in his x wing underwater.
See?

They are literally archetypes. There is close to no discernible difference between the two if you eliminate the prequels from your mind.

All the red salt dust did make for some cool visuals.
And the space battles are always a standout.

They are the same only in the sense that Snoke is a very poor copy, which makes him dying the nothing that it was.

the point I am trying to make is that his background story doesn't really matter in the context of this movie. His story isn't even important to the saga. He was a powerful and greedy bad guy that inadvertently pushed our main antagonist, Kylo Ren, to usurp him. He served his purpose. The mystery of who he was made him more interesting, though I'm sure there will be supplemental information available to whoever wants it, and I don't think answering the question of his past adds anything valuable.

The only way Snoke is important is he is the one that corrupted Kylo initially (from the flashbacks)

See, I disagree with him not being important but for a different reason: everyone says they knew he had too much influence on Ben so they knew who he was but no one wants to tell US who he was. Who was he...in the Empire? In the Rebellion but went power-hungry? There's nothing there, especially since he knew the Emperor and yet there's nothing that says Sheev knew him.

I see what you are saying. That makes sense. Where is it that Snoke knows the Emperor?

Leia tells Han that she knew Snoke was bad but didn't stop their interaction. Luke said much the same. So if they knew Snoke before, he must have been somewhat powerful...who was he?

I wondered about that. But they may have just known of him as the head of the First Order who was also influencing their son.

God I wish a better director had made this. The more I think about that throne room fight, the more wasted it seems. Imagine that shit with a huge wall of flames backlighting the characters, sabers clashing in slo-mo, intense choral chanting (think Zimmer’s Bane theme meets Williams’s ROTJ score for the Luke/Vader duel) underscoring the action...the potential for mythic pop art here is huge, and no one besides Gareth Edwards seem interested in that.
