Re: The standards
yeah wasn't a fan of that drum solo
I tend to like the standards, live. I like getting porch, why go, alive, animal, small town, jeremy, last exit, corduroy, betterman, given to fly, DTE. even if I've heard them all lots of times (and I have) it's not like i'm at a show every day.

It was beautiful in 1998 and 2000.Birds in Hell wrote:Perhaps not every show, but (without looking at stats to confirm) I think it's been played often enough to be considered something of a staple.
Anyway, it's never good.
In 2003 they added that dreadful "I wish I was the president" tag; it was all downhill from there.

Re: The standards
When I go to just one show and know that will be only one for a while of the songs they regularly play I would be most disappointed if they left out Alive or Corduroy and did something other than Ledbetter to close.
I'd be okay if they skipped Black, Do the Evolution, Even Flow, Daughter, RVM (just because I perfer hear Porch) or any cover.

Re: The standards
I think Crazy Mary is the only one I really don't look forward to. Usually, it wins me over by the end, but I've heard it a lot and I can do without it now.
Hail Hail, Do The Evolution, Animal and Yellow Ledbetter are all songs I expect to hear and get a little bummed if I don't.

Re: The standards
Having the wrong staples is what the live shows suffer most from.
Here my list of PJ`s wrong staples:
The Fixer (not that bad of a song musically, but Ed cant handle it)
Alive (is there any standout version of this song?)
Just Breathe (rather boring)
Unthought Known (only works on the album because it is overproduced)
Betterman (would be ok if shorter and not always in the encores)
Given to fly (Ed cant handle it)
Yellow Ledbetter (at least from a bootleg perspective)
Why Go (actually they nail this song, but it just gets played too often)
PJ`s right staples:
Small Town
DTE (if they abandoned this stupid sing-a-long during the bridge)
Corduroy
Got Some (Why does this song get so much hate here? They lyrics are rather weak but it is a great song I think)
Hail Hail
Songs that should become staples:
Plenty of songs from Binaural and Riot Act!

I`d like to hear your explanation!Angus wrote:That's so wrong.SpectorHD wrote:Yellow Ledbetter (at least from a bootleg perspective)
I`d much rather put on a bootleg where the last encore is actually interesting and doesnt consist of Alive, Baba, YL, RITFW.
Why not closing a show with Of The Girl, Given To Fly or All Or None?

I was never a big fan of YL to begin with, and the fact that it closes 99% of the shows kinda sucks. I have no problem if they play it every so often, but all that talk about PJ's set list being varied falls apart for the encores. You pretty much know you're getting RITFW and YL; BORING. Switch it up! Play YL mid set, really fuck with the set-list. Unfortunately, PJ's set list have become pretty predictable.

No I’m not saying they should end every show with YL. I’m all for more variation, although to be honest, I’ve had it as closer 12 out of 18 and I’m still happy every time I hear it. But it was your second phrase that I thought was wrong. They still play their shows and write their setlists for the people who are there, not for the few wacko’s who listen to every bootleg and are then tired of hearing the same songs over and over again.

Im always happy with DTE, RVM, Animal, Why Go, Hail Hail, and plenty more
Not thrilled with when it starts, Crazy Mary, Evenflow, Ledbetter as the closer, i wouldn't mind hearing it, but Im tired of it ending my shows

Yet I think that the majority of the people who actually attend the shows would enjoy other closing songs at least as much as YL. I believe that when you are at a show you enjoy almost every song. But when you put on a Bootleg the song selection is way more important. What I want to say:
Being at the show the enjoyment of YL might be a 8 on a 10-point-enjoyment scale whereas Of the girl might rank only slightly above (9/10 maybe). From a bootleg perspective it might be 5 vs. 8.
Does anybody understand my point?

Re: The standards
I kinda like the idea of a designated closer but maybe that's just me. Besides, I've only gotten Ledbetter twice in the my last six PJ shows so
Believe it or not I saw them 19 times before getting my first RitFW.
