Ugh.
what did they say?

They hate it. ‘But they’d have a well thought out articulate argument about WHY ITS THE WORST FILM EVER MADE!’

Apparently
Slightly disappointing but not all together surprising. They are slavishly devoted to a certain idea of what Star Wars is

Rian did a Q&A after a screening in LA and was asked specifically about Rey's parentage.

Basically, Rian said he wrote down every possible parent idea he could think of: Obi-Wan, Luke, Han & Leia, Snoke, Plagueous, Palpatine and on and on. He tried to play out how all of these would go and he ultimately decided that the best possible/most satisfying and appropriate option was for her parents to be "no one special" because it presented an obstacle for Rey to overcome.

Having said that - I’ll watch his eventual video. I Can’t stand his sidekicks on the review show, though. They are never insightful and walking embodiments of nerd fanboy destructive privelage

I thought you were saying he hasn't watched it yet, and on no planet in any galaxy at any time is that the case

He thinks the film is Oscar worthy.

So this was my post from August:

Sgt. Crackpot wrote:I hate the fact that it seems the movies are now becoming less of a progression of the story, and an expansion of the universe, and more of a thrill for the directors/writes to have:
  • Have someone related to somebody. i.e. One of the key good guys is related to one of the bad guys. And someone is the descendant of someone.
  • Kill someone off.
Star Wars makers, stop trying to find links and kill off people to try to gain shock value. We had the brilliant "No, I am your father" moment in the past. Stop trying to recreate that moment.

Please, just tell great stories, with lots of pew pews and gold bikinis.
I'm so glad that Rian took this path in regards to Rey's parents. I hope JJ sticks with it through EP IX.

On another note, while Rian killed off Luke - he did it in such an amazing and unexpected way. Only when we see Luke fade, was when I realised what was happening. A sad but amazing moment.

I fucking love Rian for what he did with some of these aspects.

I have a load of respect for Rian doing what he did. He made choices in this movie not to be popular or do what he thinks everyone wanted him to do. He made these choices for the purposes of amazing story telling and challenging not only his audience, but the characters within his story.

The sad thing is that a good portion of the audience don't like to be challenged. They want an easy story.

That's the most arrogant thing I've read in this thread.

And it's competing with a lot like this:
