TLJ may not be the best Star Wars film but it's certainly been the most impactful for me. Also, the one that's made me think the most. There's so much to chew on.

I hope we get even more to dig into in 9. I hope the whole thing isn't just wrap up and pew pew.
This is my one concern with JJ.

Also, it MIGHT be the best star wars after all is said and done. *shrugs*

I love JJ's work and I'm not ashamed to say it. I think he'll make a really good if not great film. But I still have that little seed of doubt.

durdencommatyler wrote:Here's an idea. You know how we don't know Rey's real name? Or at least her last name (if her real first name is Rey)? Well, what if in Ep 9, she takes the last name Skywalker? Even better, what if either Leia or Force Ghost Luke are the ones that give it to her to have? I think that could be beautiful and meaningful in a profound way. AND it would shut everybody up about how this is "The Skywalker Saga!"

Also, how fucking pissed would Kylo Ren be if Rey took that name?

"That name, it belongs to me!"

I think it could be really fucking cool. Joseph Scrimshaw from the Force Center Podcast mentioned something to this affect and I thought it was brilliant. I'm now 100% hoping this happens. It's the perfect way to keep Rey "no one" and not betray so many of the themes you and I both love in The Last Jedi, but then also appease those fans that need these films to be about Skywalkers. And it adds so many cool new layers to the themes of identity and legacy and legend and all of that.

I think it would work really well.

It’s not his idea. It’s been a huge idea penetrating every conversation about rey since we met her.

Well I hadn't heard any such idea until I heard Scrimshaw throw it out there. I was just crediting my initial source because he's the one that got me thinking.

Have you ever actually seen that guy? Even on YouTube?

Man if they ever make the gormenghast films he should be the lead.

Never seen anyone so spindly and spidery and anemic and underfed in my entire life.

He's a super smart dude though. And I love his Star Wars takes. I also love his voice. It's so distinctive.

Totally agree. Voice is awesome. He’d also be perfect as the patrician for the patrician in any adaptation of the discworld books by Terry pratchett.

All that aside. Gut instinct. Is JJ gonna do something that speaks to TLJ or given all the backlash(most of it fabricated) is he gonna do a hard F&F uturn and give us a double down hardcore Star Wars story using practical effects! Over familiar design language! Same old tropes and predictable ending we secretly want?

I kinda secretly want it and I love TLJ. It needs to be hardcore Star was if it is truly the wrapping up of the Skywalker saga. And I think public opinion (aka current dumpster fire) would welcome it warmly

It might even overtake TFA at the box office.

Maybe that’s been the plan all along?

these are not diametrically opposed options -especially since the end of TLJ basically resets star wars in a way that makes it easy to wrap the story up with a happy ending while still being faithful to what's come before.

We'll get Force Luke guiding Rey (or fucking with Ren). They'll have their climactic duel. I assume at one point Rey will fight the nights of Ren. Some combination of Poe, Chewie, and Finn will blow up some First Order superweapon. Something for everyone

has the "rey is a clone from luke's severed hand" theory been discussed here?

Cause that would still be faithful to Rian's story about her parents being nobody. She could have been rasied by Hobo's and alcoholics but she could still be a clone of the skywalker bloodline.

I don't need an explanation for why Rey is so strong, but I would like an explanation for the intense force vision, and its contents, when Rey touches the lightsaber in TFA.

It was telling her to take it to Luke, so he could toss it over a cliff.
