I'm happy to say after the second viewing I enjoyed this one more that TFA. It was definitely a step up.

I can understand why people may not like this film, but the social media backlash is just absurd.

Took my kids tonight. They loved it. They laughed at Snoke getting annihilated. They were in awe at the throne room scene. They thought Luke was a badass in his final act.

Second viewing for me, and I still really enjoyed it.

We'll probably go see it again after Christmas.

This reminds me, when I went to see it...during the throne room fight.

At the end of the fight, when the lightsaber goes through the guards head, and you see the hole...a young kid (7-8?) behind me and my brother chuckled. That's messed up.

I quite liked that move by Ren, and they way the camera pans to reveal the hole.

Lightsabers can’t switch on and off that quickly. Also sound designer Ben burtt who invented all the sounds in Star Wars, including the lightsabers, didn’t work on this movie. That’s why it all sounded fucking wrong.

I hate this film.

IT would be interesting to read any reviews from the 97/99 theatrical rereleases and see what journalists at least thought. The internet was barely two years old at that stage.

Well provide some evidence. Most serious pieces ever written about Star Wars are written through a ha e of nostalgia and a wonderment or what is the lightning in the bottle those three films have.

Agree with LV. The smartest thing JJ did was remaking ep 4, the worst thing he did was doing it with less soul and with the stupid Starkiller Base. The new movies just haven’t captured the spirit of the OT.

Give this one time, and see how it simmers. Plus once EP IX is released, it may make sense of this movie's importance.

I don’t have the energy or time to go round and round on this.

There is more OT Star Wars references spirit and functions in the last Jedi than there are in even the force awakens. TFA has them as upfront in your face elements. TLJ has a great many more employed so deeply and subtley than I would have thought possible. But they are there. And they are the best elements of Star Wars being brought forward.
You aren’t seeing them. Clearly. Thats fine. But youre building a castle on sand saying things like ‘soulless’ until you find them and see how they relate to translating Star Wars into a new paradigm for a new generation.

I don’t think time is going to be kind to these movies at all. There is no way they will ever be viewed as enduring classics equal to the OT. They’re way too flimsy, and the level of filmmaking craftsmanship is not even comparable.

Honestly nonsense. Ebert and siskel both have flip flopped and changed their view in almost every single Star Wars film. They’re known for it.

BVS already has a big cult following that will only grow throughout the years. Zack Snyder will be heralded as a misunderstood auteur in 50 years, mark my words.
