Did good last night, nearly an hour in the weightroom followed by 1 1/4 mile on the treadmill. Back at it tomorrow.

50:45 today at the race (7.2mi). Good for 882/10,672. This was the most consistent race I have been able to put together in my three prior runs here as my splits were only 6 seconds apart. The whole second half of the race is some pretty tough hill work. Saw prior Olympic qualifier Meb Keflezighi there, he finished third...the winner from Kenya clocked in at just over 32 minutes.

It was 58 degrees at race time, pretty unheard of in July around these parts.....

I was weighed at the hospital the other day. I was 13 stone. Considering my height I don't want to be that heavy but I don't seem to have any choice.

Is this because of your disability? Forgive me for prying man, I'm not sure how much you like to talk about it publicly. I don't know much about it, or what type you have.

Na, it's cool and I'm pretty open about it. I have Spina bifida, which doesn't directly affect my weight except that being in a wheelchair, there's very little I can do to lose midriff weight. I do strength stuff as much as I can but my health hasn't been great in the past few years so the amount I've been doing has diminished a little.

Man, that sucks. Is that something that has affected you since birth? Is that why things get you down sometimes?

Yeah, I was born with it. After 31 years it's just one of those things; I don't really compare my life or difficulties with anyone else's because I guess we all have different ones and I've not known anything else. So my shit is just my shit and it don't stink any more than anyone else's. I've been luckier than some, and I don't think able-bodied people are exempt from a difficult life. But yeah, I guess sometimes it can be one of many factors, and my health has been a bitch lately. Mental health mostly but also several doctors appointments a week. They've got far more frequent over the last few years.

10 miles in 74 minutes

Ran this morning for the first time in 10 days. Felt great. I have lost almost 10 pounds in the last couple of weeks and I can feel it. Felt light and dialed in, but suffered on the return. 36 out. 38 back. Legs feel pretty beat up. Another month of summer "maintenance mode", then I'll be looking to pick things up.

:nice: Awesome work, that's a great pace.

I managed to achieve that earlier this year, but then had to have surgery that knocked me off my feet for a couple of months. I'm way off now, and only really in the 'rehab' stage, but with careful and solid training hopefully that'll be in reach again.

Have you tried those lumbar extension machines where you lean back against a padded arm that raises weights? I remember seeing an interview with Tim Duncan where he swore by them for keeping his back healthy.

Were you running a lot of hills? I have tight achilles and calves and my feet go numb if I'm running a lot of hills. They come back to normal once I have a flat stretch though.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
