A thought just occurred to me... bare with me (or skip)

When S/T was released, my son was 1. He had a habit of waking up around 5:30 in the morning for no particular reason. I would put him in the stroller and we'd be out the door, with Avocado blasting away on my headphones. This became almost like a morning ritual for us. That whole summer was defined by stroller walks and Pearl Jam.

When Backspacer was released, my son was 4 and my daughter was 1. I remember it clear as day. My CD arrived in the mail the day before we set out for vacation in Outer Banks, NC. My daughter also had the unfortunate habit of waking up uncomfortably early in the morning. But at least for this one week, I embraced it. I would strap her into a baby bjorn and grab my headphones. We would take long walks on the beach while I listened to Backspacer over and over again. It's the only memory I have of the Outer Banks. When I listen to BS now I can still smell salt in the air.

When LB is released, my son will be 7 and my daughter will be 4. Now here's the crazy thing. There will be no strollers, no diapers, no early morning risers. Instead, I'll be dancing in the living room with my children. My daughter will yell, "Dad, I want it louder!". My son will be jumping off the couch with his plastic toy guitar. That's just wild.

The point is that, no matter what, PJ is one of those few constants in my life by which I can measure various points. The last few albums weren't life changing records in the way that Ten and Vs. completely altered the path of an angry and confused teenage boy back in the day, and I don't expect LB to be something that powerful either, but they still mark general milestones for my life. Ask me to describe what I was doing when the last Radiohead album came out, or the last Flaming Lips album, or the last Walkmen record (these are all bands that I love btw) and I might only have a few vague memories. But PJ is different. I don't really understand why or how but they just are. That's pretty cool.

I also can remember the day i got all of the albums from vs to bs (i wasn't lucky enough to know who pj was to get ten on the day it was released) and the routines I've had through the years for those first listens. But i don't remember any other albums and getting them when they were first released unless i got them the same days as a pj album

Things definitely don't seem to leak like they used to. Wasn't the BS leak about 2 weeks before it officially came out? Can't remember....

My guess is first week of October, but I hope I'm wrong (obviously I'd like to hear it sooner). We'll get clips/snippets and shit like that before then, though. Gonna try to avoid the snippets this time around.

Aww, that's too bad. That would have been absolutely perfect. I was in the middle of a drive up to Chicago from Florida when the first countdown ended, and I really badly wanted it to be at least SOME music in part for that reason. The Manics released a new single that day, and it was the day before my birthday, and I thought "Man, that'd be a cool first memory to associate with the new album, driving back to the part of the country I grew up in listening to brand new songs from my two favorite bands ever and putting a close on one of the crappier years of my life." Instead my first memories of the new album are of going for runs and playing MYM, which is cool, but that's a first memory a lot of albums get these days as opposed to something really unique.
