I'll preface by saying it doesn't bother me if we don't know who are Rey's parents.
I think some people are upset because it's shown in TFA that we may find out who her parents are, with the force flashback where she she's them leaving in a starship. And it's talked about in TLJ, until Kylo says they were basically drunks.
why does Hux hold for the message from General Leia? The First Order wiped out 5 planets (including the seat of galactic government) with Starkiller base. They start the orbital bombardment of the Resistance base in TLJ. It seems like the FO wouldn't care what she had to say.

Poe made the right decision to take that fucker out.
snoke’s dreadnought is there in place of it. they establish that the resistence ship can stay at sufficent range so that their shields can resist it

That doesnt negate what they did in TFA. Them being "basically drunks" still answers those question insofar as it establishes Rey's motivations and her desire to fit in the universe. Nothing about TLJ changes it. It was the fans who took those flashbacks as meaning she must be connected to someone important.

because of lazy writing.
It's funny because if you went by Poe's dismissal of the First Order by his interactions with Hux in this scene, and his Kylo scenes in TFA, you would think the FO were a bunch of idiots.
Can you imagine in SW (ANH), the Captain of the Tantive IV, when he's being interrogated and choked by Darth Vader, start quipping like a bad ass?
you are supposed to think Hux is an entitled idiot, but that is by design - for what it says about Snoke, and for how it shapes his relationship with kylo
She gives Vader some guff too at the start of a new hope.
Made all the more cheeky by what we see in the end of rogue one.
She’s blatantly lying to him AND giving him shit.
They are pulling episode 8 the last Jedi from canon and remaking it with a new director thanks to a hugely successful campaign, well, petition, signed by 38 angry people.
