Lyrics that Eddie Vedder has changed through the years?

Post by mikejasond »

Curious if there are any. I know at some point he changed all his "Mommy's" and "Daddy's" to "Mother" and "Father" which makes singing along with his biggest hits kind of a tough job. I get why he did it...at least I assume it's because he did it in an ironic youth rage-y kind of way, and now he thinks it sounds stupid, but it sucks that the coolest part of Jeremy now makes me pause for a second as I scream "DADDDYYYYY" along with the live recording and then Vedder just says "Father"

But I'm also talking about legit lyric changes.

(Also I notice he starts with "Kneeling" a lot in Even Flow and I'm pretty sure the first line is Freezing...does he just not know the words or did he change the verse?)

Alcohol abuse + old age + having to remember a buttload of songs = Eddie just makes it up as he goes along.

There's the horrible insertion of "peace (man)" into Corduroy.

If we put these fifteen guys in a room you could solve all the problems in the world... :haha:
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

I realize that it's counter-productive to give examples of what I really wasn't looking for in my own topic (I was talking about actual changes to the lyrics of the song and not little improv's)

but whatever I feel the need to also mention that I've heard him say some weird stuff in Do the Evolution before. I heard a lot of times where he said "Admire Stone" instead of my clone which I thought was funny, and on some verses I dunno wtf he's saying.

I guess there are some songs, like YL, that he rambles where be used to mumble.

I'm not sure improvs can be separated from lyric changes, especially because Ed often changes things live. Every established lyric change was an improv once, until it stuck, and now it's just tradition.

I'm annoyed he still sings "2010 watch it go to fire" in Evolution, even though that year has passed. He could change that.

"Got all these questions, don't know who the fuck I'm ever gonna ask"

It doesn't fit Ed, stop it.

Thought of a legit one. In Wishlist on "I wish I was an alien" Ed always sings "I wish I was a living being at home behind the sun." I honestly don't get this one

Just hired a new girl named Beth at work today.

It's really hard to get her attention.

When he wrote it originally, he was thinking of dead ones.

"I swallowed my words to keep from lying" (which is a pretty powerful line. he's saying he had to completely shut up because anything he'd say would be a lie) turned to "I swallowed the truth to keep from lying" (which just... doesn't mean shit, Ed)

Um, yeah it does.
