The technical discussions in the Vault newsletter address the difficulties in recording multitrack on the road until the availability of DAT recorders in the early 90s; you needed a mobile recording truck, essentially a recording studio on wheels, which was prohibitively expensive to take out on the road for any band except for maybe one or two shows. It's a really great little article and also finally explains (more or less) why Brett didn't mix the 2008 bootlegs too, an enduring mystery.

Im about half way through the tech/crew talk stuff which i have found quite enjoyable.

There seems to be every grateful dead show available in good quality though?

I don't know much about the Dead, I admit.

I guess they're either straight soundboard recordings or they had their own dedicated recording truck set-up early on, which wasn't something Pearl Jam could afford in the early days?

It's in the newsletter, a detailed history of how they've recorded their shows (probably getting sick of dorks complaining of missing songs on Vault releases).

Really hoping someone is able to put together a definitive edition mix of this show sometime soon...

If you're digital, there should be a copy in the downloads section of your 10C profile.

Man oh man. That is one hell of a process they went through to get those bootlegs out. I commend them and their efforts. Pretty incredible.

Vault 7 has arrived in Sydney :hooray:

I expect at least another month before my Xmas single arrives.

It made it here before Aus? That's odd...
